Do you like working out?

Yes.

Do you like bragging about your progress?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of my progression. Who doesn't get proud about their progression? Its an achievement.

Do you workout because you need to shed a few pound or gain some mass?

Gain.

I curl 20-30 pound dumbbells for as long as I can with very short breaks. I typically play music during a workout, and can make through about 3 or 4 songs before fully stopping.

I bench press about 99 pounds. I can do about 15 reps before I have to put it back. I then take a quick break and get at it again. I do about 3-4 sets

I do this because I need to gain muscle and shed some mass.

How do you progress in increasing the amount of weight you lift. I feel stuck and I'm not really lifting much..

Look up 5X5 workout method. Worked for me. And if you get stuck work on Lifting 80% of your one rep max for 5 reps per set.

@erik: I'm coming off a complete fracture of both my tibia and fibula with a pulmonary embolism thrown in from a few months ago! I have just began to insert leg drive into my lifts again a couple of weeks ago! Wait til I get my squat and DL back up. 500+ on those lifts, here I come again!

I can currently bench 135 once. Working out for mass gain but I need to make a more serious workout for chest and arms. I plan on being able to put up 150 by the end of this first semester!

Does eating junk food and video gaming from 3:00pm to 2:00am then reading comics count as exercise?

But seriously, as soon as I get all settled into my new house I am going to start utilizing the tips that @wolverine08 gave me.

@warlordeternal: Can curl 30lb dumbbells nonstop for 4 songs. Can only bench 99lbs. Wut? Strong muscular imbalance. How long are the songs? How do you even fit 99lbs on a bar? The bar weighs 40 lbs, what weight plates do you put on it to equal 59lbs?

The songs range anywhere between 3 to 4 minutes, and I didn't say nonstop. On the bench, some of the weights have a little something extra like 7.5 or 2.1 (I cant remember the exact numbers) which is why I said "about 99lbs". I'm pretty sure the bar doesn't weigh 40 pounds. More like 10. IIRC it's two 25's, two 10's, two, 7.5, two 5's, and two 2.3's

which would be 99.6lbs. Plus the bar is 109.6

I also have a friend spot me.

@warlordeternal:

It sounded like you were implying that you curl nonstop through 3 or 4 songs. My apologies for the error. I'm pretty sure that the bar does weigh 40lbs. That's how much it's weighed in every gym I've ever been too. Maybe your gym has 10 pound bars idk. Is the bar in your gym made of rubber or plastic by any chance? I've personally never seen 2.3 lb plates either.

@gymgoer205: The bench is actually at my friends place. He has it but rarely used it. Because of the sudden want to exercise, I then grabbed my dumbbells and headed to his place. We have been using it for the past month and a half to two months now. Just about every 4 days of a week with Wednesday and the weekends being our down time. (I say just about because something important might come up). The bar is made of metal. It might be 15lbs. I haven't checked, but it doesn't feel heavy.

@wolverine08: Thanks I need to add some supplements to my workout, not sure on which one's though. If whey counts as a supplement I'm thinking about primarily using that.....or muscle milk not sure.

Ah f%ck, sorry I never responded to this man. Whey is an extremely good choice. I'd also recommend creatine

I don't think I've ever actually attempted a bench press. How much can you roughly lift when you first start?

Lots of factors really. It'll depend on how much you weigh, etc. If you're able to do your bodyweight on your first try, then your in a ridiculously good position. You'll probably have to work up to there though.
