Who cares tbh,I liked comics artstyle and quality over manga,but at best I think comics edges out in quality a bit. Storywise, manga and anime tbh, although there are comics that are very Amazing.

1. Agenda Pushing. We just want a fun story to read goddamn

2. The simplicity. If u wanna read your favorite manga you don't have to sift through 100's of reboots and retcons or whatever bs we like to do.

3. Creativity/Writing. Manga can make everything from Volleyball to Gardening interesting and fun to read. The Manga industry is constantly shitting out fun new stories while we recycle the same shit over and over.

If you watch a South Korean movie they set it in Korea culture with their own style and themes, they don't apologize for being Korean people. In America today the writers in US comicbooks, hollyweird movie and tv shows are almost Anti-American.

Hollywood used to be the best and most innovative movie industry in the world, but that has changed in past couple of years. South Korea is giving better quality in terms of movies lately. Japan is giving better animation and comics. It's just that overall east is giving better art and entertainment. That being said quality alone doesn't sell, but it has certainly helped removing the stigma that asian entertainment had in the west. And anyway manga had always been doing better than capeshit comics worldwide(especially south east asia and Europe), now people have started talking about it all of a sudden because its started outselling american comics inside north america too.

Comics have not been good quality and dumb ideas/no new ideas. More difficult to know what to read or follow a character or story. No marketing really and needs to be easier for people to read online.

This thread is awesome and I agree with everything being said. Comic book writers keep injecting rubbish into comics and changing already well established characters for the sake of inclusion and to push their political narratives. Manga keeps it simple, is consistent with quality and is very easy to get into. This should be an eye opener for comic book writers

@rawsos: the boys and invincible are good examples. Especially nobody gave a fuck about Boys before the show came out. It helped the comic gain newfound pupularity and sales. Invincible comics are also selling well this year for an already finished series thanks to the Amazon's adaptation.

Although I agree that these sales boost are more of a bandwagon hit and not long term success like what happens in the anime=>manga scenario because of their success we will see more comic book tv series in future.

Manga overtaking comics globally is not a surprise. In fact it is Japan's marketing failure and the way their anime industry works is responsible for not living up to their potential in global entertainment market.

But Japanese manga/anime giving American comic/cartoon a run for their money in US is surprising. I think it is mainly because their failure at capturing new readers after the late 80s/early 90s. Marvel & DC duopoly+rehash/reboot is a result of their attempt at constantly capitalise on their pre-existing reader base. It hurt in long term by alienating newer fans. Comic became something only for the 'comic fans' not something for a new diverse audience to explore. And If MCU keeps pushing with their 'franchise obsession' as they are doing now with phase 4, the comic book movies will face the same consequences sooner or later
