Whose more of a threat to the students at Berkley: Ben Shapiro or Antifa?

Ahead of Ben Shapiro's speech at Berkeley, the school has offered counseling services for those who may feel "threatened" by Shapiro's presence on the campus. Shapiro is a conservative/libertarian speaker and head of the Daily Wire.

The LA Times cites the school as saying: “We are deeply concerned about the impact some speakers may have on individuals’ sense of safety and belonging...No one should be made to feel threatened or harassed simply because of who they are or for what they believe.”

Some have called Shapiro a "Fascist" for his conservative views. While others point out the Never Trumper was the number one target of anti-Semitc attacks online for 2016 according to the Anti Defamation League and claim he is not a Fascist but their number one target.

Antifa have successfully stopped the appearance of conservative speakers such as Ann Coulter and Milo Yiannopoulos before by rioting. At the Milo speech about $100,000 dollars in damage was done. They promise to prevent Ben Shapiro from speaking.

So who is more of a threat to the students of Berkeley? Shapiro or Antifa?

Ben Shapiro won't assault people who try to show up at his event. I think the answer is rather obvious to anybody with a shred of common sense

Ben Shapiro. Sure Antifa is rioting and attacking people, but Ben Shapiro is doing something far worse...he's offending people by the egregious act of disagreeing with them.

But seriously, if you people like Ben Shapiro trigger you so much, then just go to your dorm room, or literally any other part of the campus, and wait for his speech to be over. No one is requiring the students to go to his speech, if they attend they attend at their own free will. No need to destroy your own campus just to prevent your feelings from being hurt.

As a side note, might I point out that blocking fascist behavior, aka behavior the left associates with Ben Shapiro. Sorry, but you lose the right to call anyone else a fascist when you start waging war on the first amendment.

Ben Shapiro, at his worst, just needs the below to 'fix' whatever feelings or sensitivity he hurts:

Antifa, on the other hand, organized violent protest and the second you do that whatever message you are trying to send gets destroyed. You don't get to 'fight for equality and tolerance' by violently silencing another's voice and personal views no matter how much you disagree with said views.

In other news I should probably make a thread like who is more of a threat to Americans Al Gore or domestic terrorists. That would have about as much relevance.

Not unless those terrorists were actively using threats as a weapon to stop him from speaking at places within the US and succeeding.

Edit: It's a legit subject because antifa are doing these things and it seems like to many that people give them a pass and making the other guy to be the real problem

I like Ben Shapiro. He talks almost as fast as the Flash runs though. And by Flash, I mean Barry. He has nothing on Wally's speed. He'd take out that Anti-fa group quicker than anybody. :)

It's actually not considering the situation and how so many make him to be the real problem out of the whole thing. I don't particularly like the guy as he leans to far right for my tastes but geez. These speakers are the ones getting blamed and not the protestors, threat makers. It's a comparison brought up but not made by the OP. Reaction too the situations have done that already. I may not agree with everything Ben Shapiro says, but he at least supports freedom of speech and other constitutional rights.

It's obvious to me too but not everyone agrees with us. A significant amount of people believe his rhetoric is more dangerous and harmful. It also has ties to the whole free speech vs silencing harmful speech debate that is a real issue today.

That's what I believe threads like this are for. TO deal with that. It's why I believe it's legit and relevant to talk about. I found your comment to be dismissive of the OP's post and was making a case in favor.

I've been seeing too many dismissives lately and wanted to address one while I had the opportunity.

Well Today is the day of Ben Shapiro's speech. The event is sold out, but Berkeley will not allow tickets to be sold in the balcony for fear that people will throw things at the people below. All the buildings in the surrounding area have been closed. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent on security (See LA Times article).

The chancellor has said that the 'best response to hate speech is “more speech”'. But do you think Ben Shapiro is engaged in hate speech and is a danger to the student body?

On a side note - Berkeley has built their wall before Trump even started his.
