A dedicated human is actually pretty good against single canines like Wolves [thanks to our hands] or big cats [Its pretty easy for us to strangle big cats before they take us down which is why cats are ambush predators.. Mountain Lions get strangled to death during attacks on people all the time, IIRC, once even by an old lady].
Really big cats like a Tiger is going to be much for a human. Brown bears and the like are way out of a human's league.
Give a man a spear though and he can conquer the world.
