What were your go to book series as a kid? If not a series, maybe a general favorite book or author you read?
What was your favorite children's book series growing up?

Nope, what's about it?
Basically the "Dark Lord" invades a kingdom. The prince escapes with the help of his childhood friend (a peasant/blacksmith).
16 years later, the Blacksmith's son goes on a quest to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet Belt of Deltora, as well as to find the missing Prince or his heir.
It's a very well written series that does a great job at balancing the light-hearted adventure aspects and the darker/creepier moments. It's got witches, monsters, and all sorts of dark fantasy elements despite being very child oriented. And what I found especially interesting, is that the protagonists encounter a lot of puzzle moments that the readers can actually solve before the main characters do.
I think it's very good for challenging the logical thinking skills of young kids, and honestly even for an older audience, I think a lot of the puzzles are still pretty fun.
Another thing is that the writer is an anime fan, and it kind of reflects in the series (even has a "tournament arc" lol). She even managed to a Japanese studio to do an anime based on the books, and had direct involvement in it's production, so it's actually super accurate as an adaption.
The Magic Treehouse and American Chillers.
It wasn't my favorite but I also read the mentioned Deltora Quest.
@el_mago: Do you know that series "Le Petit Prince" ?
Harry Potter.
@jacdec: The Foundation series were definitely not children's books but hats off to you for being able to read through it as a child.

I must have been 15 when I read the first opus of the foundation cycle. This book made a deep impression on me and Asimov became my favorite SF author. I think I've read all of his books. SF has long been my favorite genre. I must have read 200 novels, mostly American authors from the 60s, Philip K. Dick, Frank Herbert, H.P. Lovecraft, Poul Anderson, Clifford D. Simak, Jack Vance, Theodore Sturgeon, Robert A. Heinlein, Robert Sheckley, A. E. van Vogt and others.
