Poll: What is YOUR personal opinion of how sex before marriage should be perceived by your country? (65 votes)

Option 1: Sex before marriage should be considered illegal 5%
Option 2: Sex before marriage should NOT be illegal, but should be perceived as socially unacceptable 14%
Option 3: Sex before marriage should NOT be illegal and should NOT carry any social stigma 60%
Option 4: Sex before marriage should be encouraged 22%

This is about YOUR personal opinion, it is NOT about your country's current laws and perceptions.

The topic covered on this poll/thread addresses a social issue that exists in almost every civilized nation: Premarital sexual intercourse, or simply sex before marriage. This is about sex between a pair of consenting partners both of legal age but had yet to be married, DO NOT GO OFF-TOPIC and target irrelevant topics like extramarital sexual affairs or pedophilia.

Marriage is a social contract between pairs of humans that existed for thousands of years, which in traditional times is tied to having a right or license to have sexual intercourse. Obviously there had been couples that had sexual intercourse before they are married or without even any intention of getting married. What do YOU think of this issue? Pick the poll option closest to your personal opinion of this matter.

Option 1: Sex before marriage should be considered illegal

Basically, this is the opinion that there should be a written law that may or may NOT be enforced, which specifically outlaws the act of having any form of sexual intercourse between a pair of consenting partners as long as they have yet registered as a married couple. The penalty can be as light as a small affordable fine, but the key opinion here is that sex before marriage should be treated as a crime.

Option 2: Sex before marriage should NOT be illegal, but should be perceived as socially unacceptable

This is the opinion that a pair of consenting partners can legally engage in any form of sexual intercourse regardless of whether or not they had registered as a married couple. However, the society should generally discourage the specific act of sex before marriage, in other words it should be treated as a socially unacceptable behavior.

Option 3: Sex before marriage should NOT be illegal and should NOT carry any social stigma

This is the opinion that a pair of consenting partners can legally engage in any form of sexual intercourse regardless of whether or not they had registered as a married couple. The society in general is truly neutral and indifferent to this behavior - Neither negative nor positive opinion.

Option 4: Sex before marriage should be encouraged

This is the opinion that a pair of consenting partners can legally engage in any form of sexual intercourse regardless of whether or not they had registered as a married couple. The society should generally encourage the specific act of sex before marriage, in other words it should be treated as something to be praised and morally upright.

Go on, vote and discuss.

And PLEASE post and explain your choice especially if you find that you voted for a minority opinion. Don't let peer pressure overwhelm your desire to express your opinion, especially in such an open place like the Internet.

So... Basically Option 4?

Option 3 because it's the most reasonable. Option 4 is stretching the limit a bit too far. Sex before marriage should not be encouraged due to all the pregnancies that could run around in the future, and don't give me that birth control excuse. They are not 100% reliable, or the excuse that involves people running around mindlessly and getting woman pregnant. Condoms break way too easily and should never be fully trusted.

Completely my opinion.

@hereforoneshot: I would never encourage it. It can be quite damaging in some ways. Trust me on that. I'd never say be proud of it either.

I do believe though that people should have the right to decide for themselves. As for being socially acceptable, if people actually kept their private lives private it wouldn't matter.

Could it be that one's life is kept private is because of his/her actions being socially unacceptable? As in, people support certain actions being legal, but when society frowns on an action, one can only keep it a secret.

Option 3. If you’re going to commit to a lifetime with somebody, you better make sure there is sexual chemistry. Otherwise you will definitely cheat on your spouse.

3rd.

No negative social stigma and definitely shouldn't be illegal. I can't imagine people forming long term relationship commitments with others without having sex to determine compatibility, it's ridiculous that society demonizes such behavior.

That is not to say it comes with risks. Of course there is the problem of unwanted pregnancy, STDs, etc. But these things should be addressed and highlighted alongside the widespread acceptance of sex before marriage.

Option 3. People have sex, and it's no one else's business; sex after marriage is more a religious thing, anyway.

Option 2; that's the way most societies operate; while I like tradition, I think having the government making it illegal is a bit overboard in modern society; it's AD instead of BC period, after all. But, of course, many people live by option 3, even though they're aware that option 2 is traditional. But, I'd ask God's forgiveness, if I couldn't resist the temptation; these are the things which we're all accountable before God and if you deserve redemption by having accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior; but, you're obviously playing a dangerous game with your eternal soul, if you do otherwise; it's my responsibility to make that known, as required by God.

It's always been widely considered immoral, only recently is it accepted and encouraged, in large part due to Hollywood normalizing it. It should not be illegal, of course, but it undoubtedly should be discouraged, as is lying, cussing, bullying, gossiping, etc.

You can tell that you have about 0 experience in having sex if you don’t know what sexual compatibility is..Stop watching so much porn. It isn’t just “sticking your pecker in a girl”.

Some girls have vaginismus making penetration painful , if you're too big for her sex will usually be awkward and maybe even painful , some people like having sex all the time while others dont at all so 2 different libidos can easily ruin a relationship, if they're into your kinks , etc.

Anyone saying "just stick it in" should not be consulted for sex tips

Erm...? I do not see the logic here. Why is the discipline to wait before marriage a proof of why we shouldn't wait until marriage?

Avatar image for dshipp17

It's a lot more complicated than just "sticking it in", if you're trying to satisfy a woman sexually; I can think of many ways to make things sexually compatible for a woman, besides and including; however, based on my low (lack of) experience, I'd guess that she'll have a higher libido than me, where it involves "sticking it in"; but, I can catch up really fast in a number of other ways.

@hereforoneshot: I was just making a joke about the user claiming sex is nothing more then "sticking it in a woman" is a good example of the type of sexual partner you can avoid marrying by trying before hand.

Nearly every couple at my church did it before marriage.

My personal experience is that it hurts that my current wife had sex with boyfriends before I came along. It gives me constant doubts about.my adequacy. I imagine that she remembers other better men and how much better it was with them. Whereas my first wife thought I was a sexual god because she didn't have any thing to compare me to.

I wish me and my current wife got married before we had sex with anyone else.

@jagernutt: Yeah? Why is it wrong?

Because it's a sin and it can send you to hell. Even if your not a Bible believer the negative societal consequences of that behavior should be all proof anyone needs that it's a very bad way to live.
