It's because of the incompetence of so many previous presidents who couldn't do shit in regard to China, so, a lot of time passed already till Trump was elected and he is going against the economic script regarding China.

He is a puppet for corporations and carries out their agendas like many other poiliticians. It’s just the political climate created by radicals in both the left and right allow him to do more in my opinion.
