Welp. I've seen plenty off stuff about this movement but it weird's me out, as I do value fitness and exercise and all that. What is your opinion?
What do you think about the fat acceptance movement?
Didn't know fat people were under oppression.
Yeah like people said fat people arent really that mistreated. Anyway, having some fat is acceptable but being way way obese is when someone should change.
It is what it is, I guess. I certainly don't believe people should be bullied for being fat, and there's nothing more annoying than some passive aggressive fitness guy who tries to "white knight" a heavier person. I also don't think the rest of the country is responsible for fat people's limitations. Like when I hear stuff about bigger airplane seats or stadium seats or stores and brands carrying larger sizes. It would be nice, but I don't think those companies are socially or legally obligated to follow through with such demands.
It's one thing to value fitness, its another to devalue those who don't share that opinion.

Yeah they kind of are. It's almost accepted and sometimes defended to ridicule, make fun of or generally make them feel bad or ashamed. Any comments to say against such behavior usually get shut down or dismissed.
I know people who are heavy and they have many stories to tell.

Someone who gets it.
@dernman: I've never heard about anything like that honestly. With most people I talk to making fun of "fat" people is like, frowned upon. I'm sure sure does happen to some people though.
While I do think really obese people should change, being fat is probably the absolute least of the problems people have today.
@wolverine08: Shut up, fatty.
They aren't mistreated (As far as I know) if anything some of them (Not all) ruin stuff for non-overweight people, I mean c'mon isn't it practically their fault that McDonalds doesn't have super size anymore? And also the reason why (I may be wrong here) that they tried to ban huge sodas in NY and a bunch of other stuff? Lol if you're overweight just don't get that stuff, don't bi*** about it and ruin it for everybody. But I don't believe we should look down on or pick on overweight people, that's just messed up and imo immature, if they don't want to try to lose weight then let them be overweight but they houldn't be treated differently than anybody else, its not like being fat makes them bad people lmao but when those same overweight people are complaining about fast food joints and other establishments selling fatty foods and trying to get them removed or w.e , I get pissed off. Just don't buy it for fu*** sake!!!

@wolverine08: Haha, yeah I just wanted to see what gif you would reply with, and you didn't disappoint.

It seems to me you're blaming the wrong people for taking away things you like. Heavy people like those things. It's why they were created in the first place and they b!tch when it gets taken away. :p
It's really the healthy eating and control how others live people that get those things shut down.
Muscles ftw.
You know all that muscle is going to turn to fat when he retires or gets to the end of his career like most former wrestlers. :p
I'm kind of OK with it. Some people can diet and exercise all day and never be skinny, at least they try. It's the people who eat a dozen donuts, and play X-Box twelve hours a day that bugs me.

LIES!
LOL just LOL. This movement is stupid. Being fat is unhealthy and telling people that it's okay to be unhealthy is wrong . If you want to lose weight, get off the couch, fix your diet and start exercising. Obviously it's hard for some people to lose weight and easier for others. But that doesn't mean you should give up and accept a unhealthy lifestyle. Isn't it more logical that there should a movement towards the very opposite of this?
This is huge on tumblr. They call it anti-fat shaming. What I hate is when they go the other extreme and say things like, "Real woman have curves" and other such things. There's nothing wrong with being skinny. xD But people who are overweight should also not be mistreated. Treat people well. People are people and everyone deserves to be treated respectfully, no matter their race, sexuality or weight.
All of these social movement's have been like a double edged sword - and people need not be so extreme about their stances from time to time.
I don't believe anyone should be made fun of due to their body shape, color, or size; however, I do not believe that people shouldn't ignore the health risks that some excessive weights can give to them - don't lose weight just to reach a certain size for social reasons - lose weight so you're not harming yourself or putting your body at risk.

Lol my bad I always under the impression that it was the heavy people getting all the good stuff taken away , I bi*** because im one of those people that can eat all that stuff all I want and not gain a pound (and I love it lol) so it frustrates me when people try to get it taken away when people can just not eat it, no one is forcing anybody to eat fatty foods, if you gain weight easily, don't eat it lol its quite simple.
With the exception of parents feeding children this is a personal choice. I can't make you lose/gain weight just as you could not do the same to me. The key word in the Fat Acceptance Movement is acceptance. You don't have to like that fat people are fat or encourage other people to become fat, but you shouldn't act is if fat people subject themselves to an inferior lifestyle just because you take issue with their eating habits. So long as our society educates us on the dangers of obesity and the importance of nutrition, we should all be given the personal freedom to choose how we want to eat.
It's so odd that THEY would try to tell ME what I am supposed to like in a woman. They tell me that the only reason I think fit women are attractive is because of magazines and Barbie Dolls. They tell me fat women are beautiful, too.
You never have to tell someone what THEY PERSONALLY find attractive. If my favorite color is blue, what kind of scientific psycho social data can you provide to convince me that my favorite color is actually green? It's not just stupid, it's nuts.
So, fat lady, go forth with your yoga pants on and see who bites. Whoever that guy is he has EVERY RIGHT to cuddle you. I have every right NOT TO. I really don't care what fat people are doing, just do it over there. So don't be worrying about who I am finding attractive.
What's next? People who decide not to shower trying to force us to accept their BO?
Here's another angle. Most women like taller guys. Does anyone take women to task for not being attracted to a short guy? Being short is worse because you can't gain height in any way, but you can lose weight. Look at the comedienne Mo'Nique. She talked that s*** for like 20 years about being happy to be fat. Now look at her.
I am egalitarian and as such I don't believe anyone should be abused for any physical, mental, or social characteristic. Not finding fat people (or black people or short people or freckled people) attractive is not abuse.
@kittyparker13: you do realize that tumblr is full of fat as crap 30 year old women with no husband, right?
I believe there is merit in some of the complaints made in how society treats people who are overweight. I don't believe for one moment the majority of people who are overweight want to be overweight and speculation as to why someone is overweight should only come from their physician, not some random stranger on the street. I take this acceptance movement to mean there are people who will never have the body shape society appears to glorify and yet they are very healthy, otherwise. They should be encouraged to accept and love themselves for that. I don't see the problem.
As for being purposely unhealthy, that is a far too complex issue to group with this supposed movement and I think the saying about walking in someone's shoes applies here.
I know several people who are over weight and look fantastic. They consider themselves beautiful/gorgeous and this confidence in turn makes them very attractive. I think that's very healthy and very sexy.
We shouldn't make fun of heavyset people. A certain level of sensitivity is fair.
It's unhealthy of course, as has been stated several times. If you must voice your concerns, try to be respectful.
Where I come from people get hanged for being fat.
O_O
Where I come from people get hanged for being fat.
And the rope snaps...
@greatcaesarsghost: Chicago is a rough place, what can I say?
