What do you consider to be a livable salary?
" @Precise said:" @Edamame: They'd find a different reason :p They can say they're overqualified for the job. Nah because for those functions like waiter or a movie theatre or something they prefer young people. "Oh. So, you mean if they have Bachelor's Degrees or Master Degrees or Ph.D's. But what if they only have a high school diploma? They can't be overqualified there. That still is age discrimination though. I see people in Conn. here who are old and work at the movie theater and as waiters/waitresses.
@DH69 said:" @Edamame: vancouver island, small city called parksville "Which state or country? "
canada, its where the last winter olympics were, well technically im on a small island 2 hrs from vancouver, but its still called vancouver island
I'd imagine one could easily live in 40,000. It's really just an issue of how they want to live. I choose to pay a lot to live in a "luxury high-rise". I don't regret it one bit and I've controlled by spending a lot so I can afford to do so. *puts on top hat and monocle*
There is absolutely no excuse to struggle with that kind of salary. If someone does, they clearly have ltittle to no fiscal responsibility, despite their income. "Hmmm, I think I'll by a second Ferrari today...Can't hurt much, right? ooooh, i'll get the car from iron man too! What? I need to buy food and housing also? Damn..."

DONT MAKE ME CUT YOU BOI!!! *puts on crocodile dundee hat*
I make 8.32 an hour (I just got a 7 cent raise), but the only person that I'm supporting is myself and I live with my parents so I don't have to pay any bills.
If you are single, I think anywhere between $50-60k per year is a comfortable amount to live off of.

"The only place I've seen a Food Lion is Valdosta Georgia "There's one in Hiram, Georgia, too. LOL.
" @DH69: What is minimum wage in Canada? "
it varies depends on the province or territory that you reside in
i would prefer not to go to where there are natural disasters, i currently live in metropolitian city and i would need to get into a big city such as NY, Dallas, LA where i can continue to do what i do, what hinders my move is my family and i don''t want to change schools for my kids yet until they are a little older also, i do have family members and friends thru out the entire states as well
some ppl are able to survie, it all depends on their current living standards and their livestlyes, some ppl ain't interested in improving their living conditions and are quite content with this, which is fine to their own
i have a daughter that lives in Jersey and it would be a bad scene over there, i need to also build a wider range of network as well as my foundation here before i can make my moves
I am originally from Kópavogur, which is just south of Reykjavik :)" Is that also the case in Iceland? Are you from Reykjavik? "
The average salary in Iceland is about $2,360 US Dollars per month.
I return to visit family every once in a while, but from what I am hearing from them as well as the news, the economy is terrible right now. Unemployment is very high. :(
Actually the original colonizers of Iceland were Norwegians, but most of the people in Iceland have Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Faroese ancestry. The Faroese are people of Norse origin that live in the Faroe Islands." @A Touch of Class (ATC): The people in Iceland have mostly Danish ancestry, no? "
:)
" @A Touch of Class (ATC): Also, there is a Celtic origin from Ireland in Iceland, right? Icelandic is related to the Danish language? "They are related in origin and slightly similar in tongue. However, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish have had their language changed throughout the years due to outside influence. The Iclenandic language is the most closely related to Old Norse, the language the Vikings spoke many years ago. And yes, lots of DNA studies have shown that there is lots of Celtic DNA in people of Icelandic heritage. In fact, some say the Celts were in Iceland before the Norsemen!
