neither...

Scientifically speaking the chicken evolved from a reptilian ancestor which led to the 'egg' form of reproduction that is currently in use by the Egg...

so neither came first, it was a slow evolutionary process leading to the Egg evolving from an amphibious egg like frog spawn under a more solid environment with a hard shell to protect the embryonic chick from predators.

Well, to be absolutely technical on the subject, the very first fully formed chicken, as we know it today, would have hatched from an egg that was laid by something that was almost a chicken, evolutionarily speaking. Who knows what the difference was? It was slightly different from the chicken we know, love, and lick off our fingers, and it's offspring was a full chicken.

Which means that, ever so technically, the egg came first.

Next week, I'll tell you if a tree makes a sound if it falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear.

Is the correct answer. I'll assume all you chicken people are young Earth Creationists (which is the only way chicken logic works).

Methos says:

"neither... If your talking about bird eggs in general, not just chicken eggs, then the bird egg is first by millions of years. Chickens are pretty late on the avian evolutionary tree, there's a gap between them and there reptile forebears. It wasn't the evolution of the chicken that led to eggs, which is how I read what you've written.

Not if you apply just a little logic to the problem. Read Ebony Bishop's post, unless your a Creationist, in which case 6000 years ago God made chickens. The only decision is whether or not you allow science to make your science choices.

This. Any mutation would have to happen in the egg.

Evolutionism: Egg

Creationism: Chicken

Dictionary: Chicken

slinger is correct the question which came first the chicken or the egg

it is the egg

ive seen a few people only so close minded that they only refer to bird like creatures

they haven't taken into account the other animals that existed before "chickens" so unless they are pro creationism they will acknowledge Dinosaurs that have lain eggs... thats right eggs long before a chicken like creature even evolved

like i said and a few smart people the egg came first and if someone says otherwise please give an explanation and i won't be making another post on this so no one say i got owned after some childish little b@stard feels high and mighty
