Washington DC is the best city in the whole United States!
@chad_duby: Yes
@carlosss14: No.
@chad_duby: No.
Doesn't DC have a crazy crime rate? Anyway I hate all cities but when it comes to large cities H Town is the goat if you don't mind the heat.
It's a great city with a great hockey team. Great jobs with lots to do and see. That said, the schools are horrible and the city council has raised the concept of "crooked politician" to new levels. Seriously, we joke how in order to be on the council you have to have served at least 2 prison terms. The transportation system is horrible with heavy congestion and regular fires on the Metro (subway). Nevertheless, it's a great city.
I haven't seen a whole lot of America's major cities (which is weird since I live in America), but I have seen DC, and it's awesome.
1) So much of the city is free. Earlier this summer, my whole family went there for a week, and we went to...
- The National Mall (home of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and too many others to list here)
- The American Art Museum
- The American Indian Museum
- The National History Museum
- The American History Museum
- The National Air and Space Museum
- The National Zoo
- And the International Spy Museum
And the only one we had to pay for was the International Spy Museum. Everything else on the list was free. I've never been to any other city where so many amazing places to go were completely free.
2) The food. I've never been to any other city with as many great restaurants as DC. No matter what you like (seafood, steak, Italian, Mexican, etc.) I promise there is at least one place that makes it great. If I could make one recommendation, it would be Hank's Oyster Bar.
3) The ease of access. Almost everything on the list above is along the National Mall. You could go to one of those museums, spend some time in the National Mall, and then go to another, all in the same afternoon. At least to my knowledge, there's nowhere else on Earth where all that is in such a short walking distance.
As you can tell, Washington DC is a city I'm really fond of. Maybe there are better cities in the world, maybe there are better cities in America, as I said, I haven't been to a lot of major cities like New York or Philadelphia. But from my life experience, Washington DC is easily the best.
I've been there a couple of times. As far as big cities are concerned, it's definitely one of the better ones. Boston is up there, too.
New York, lol.
Garbage
DC and New York are overrated. DC to me doesn't even feel like a city, more like a bunch of memorials that are called "the capital of the USA"
TBH so many people flock to the major cities like DC, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. yet they don't actually experience better ones like Nashville, New Orleans, Charleston, Pittsburgh, etc.
