Pariah Lafferty's pistol of choice is the Walker Colt .45. I know the average comic book nerd is more likely an expert on medieval weapons than firearms, so here's a little rundown on this relic of the wild west.

At four and a half pounds, it isn't a light pistol and hers is likely closer to four and three quarters given the extended barrel. It holds five .45 LC (Long Colt) bullets that are each 250 grains with 40 grains of powder per for an incredible punch, especially by today's standards. This weapon was designed to be as lethal to a criminal as the horse he's riding, if necessary it could even stop a buffalo with a head shot.

This weapon was designed in 1846 specifically for the Texas Rangers by the legendary gunsmith Samuel Colt himself with assistance from Captain Samuel Walker, a Texas Ranger. He wanted a special weapon for the then extremely dangerous Texas frontier, one that was especially deadly at close range. He got it in a weapon named for him, and he carried two of them into the Mexican-American War where he represented his state with distinction.

This pistol is one of the most successful designs of all time in terms of reliability, accuracy, and power. Its biggest shortcomings are its weight and low ammo capacity at five shots. Probably its most famous portrayal in modern media was in the film The Outlaw Josey Wales, where Clint Eastwood dual wielded them throughout the movie.

Thanks. I will probably cannibalize this info for a Western tale at some point. :)

@cbishop@heroup2112@stormdriven Just a note, which I'm about to add to this article as I just found it by accident, the name of those large cartridges that the Walker Colt .45 fires are called .45 LCs (which stands for Long Colts, not to be confused with .45 ACP which stands for Automatic Colt Pistol). .45 LCs are what the Peacemaker used to fire, but it couldn't handle the expansion of the high powder charge as well as the Walker could so the Army designed a similarly sized cartridge for it with lower powder. I'll get into that with the Peacemaker article that was requested ;)

Thats a Fine gun , im self carrys two of it in the Living Histroy Hobby.

Only ,all Colt Revolvers up to 1962 was cap and Ball percussions Revolvers , loading th a Copper Firecap on the Pistons on the End of the Cylinder and Papercartridges (or Powder and Ball) from the Cylinderfront with the Loading Rod under the Barrel.,The Power of the Powder (60 grain)was so massive, and the Steel before 1860 not the best ,thats many Walker Colts (only 1100 Build and over hundred lost by shiptransport) have problem with ruptured Barrels and Cylinders , and must repaired or lost ,so the next Gun ,the Colt Dragoon 1848 has a shorter Barrel and Cylinder and a improved catch for the Loading Rod. Today only a handfull Walker exists and all in a Priceclass up to 900.000$ and more.
