Troll Threads and You

Trolls threads may happen at any time. This is equal parts frustrating and unfortunate. Outrage and/or disgust at such time wasters may become pronounced when the topic is revolting or pornographic in nature. However, some things need to be taken under advisement to minimize future unpleasantness for everyone concerned.

Things you should do:

Depending on the severity of the thread, you may choose to PM one or more forum relevant mods, the last mod you know to be active, or a mod you are personally most comfortable contacting. Please be aware that mods are non-paid volunteers and a proper reaction time may vary.

Flag the offending thread. If they get enough flags it will stop them from posting more.

Things you should NOT do:

Panic. Neither legitimately nor for comedic sake. The earlier thread was disgusting, but it was not reason or excuse to freak out in the comments. And speaking of--

Don't comment. Every time you comment you bump it to the front page. This may not increase the odds of a mod seeing it but it will definitely increase the chance of other people seeing it and bumping it. In this case calling the mods counts as bumping. If the offending thread is a mismatch, call the appropriate mods. If the thread involves something "freak out" worthy, don't call the mods. PM them. In the future bumping porn or other explicitly banned threads will result in warnings.

Breaking other rules. The site rules are always in effect. A gif depicting nauseating imagery does not make it Purge night, and rule breaking is still rule breaking. Namely the language rule which went right out the window. I do agree with some of your reactions in spirit, but breaking additional rules just for emphasis does nothing to summon a mod faster.

Not trying to be an ass as there are some that need to know this but I'm seeing this posted after seeing gay scat porn posted in a RIP Sean Connery thread that I know was flagged 7 hours ago and is still up. How many flags do you really need for that?

We just witnessed hell on CV today. I'm atleast happy that the mods came, despite how late they were.

Dude it felt like everybody went insane. People started posting skyrim dialog, I can't believe we're still alive.

@wildvine: I personally think making it so you can only post images when you reach 100 posts or so will temporarily fix the porn issue.

I was the only one who did that personal copypasta.

For a minor offense contact the appropriate forum mod. The list is on the Meet the Mods thread. I'd advise PMing 2 or more of the proper mods for the forum in question. As for "graphic" material, feel free to hit the all mods button. We want that stuff off the site ASAP

Better late than never. Disappointed in the mod response time, but at least it's under control for now.

The flags stop the account from posting more. That is why I said people should PM any or all appropriate mods. You should not assume it will be seen just because you flagged it. This is why I always stress people to contact a forum mod rather than expecting results from flagging. Please use the all mods function if you see anything pornographic in nature

Not offense to the mods but they could act fairly quickly when this type of things happen maybe a permaban for those that initiate that behaviour.

This is the best and fastest way to get one of our attention when the need arises. This should be used during a spam invasion, user harassment (link as much evidence as you can) or more relevantly, some content is posted on CV that needs to be removed ASAP.

I feel the need to emphasize this because I still see comments on certain threads, that most of us agree need not be bumped.

Furthermore, while a central PM is a good idea in practice, I would still recommend utilizing the all mods function as new PMs create email alerts, replies to existing PMs don't. Please don't bump nasty threads. I promise you one of us will deal with it the moment we become aware.
