It should have ended after Cell's demise and Future Trunks' storyline was finished, with Gohan being the most powerful and Goku finally staying dead.

Cell was badass and every battle with him felt like the end of the world.

Majin Buu was ridiculous, silly, overpowered (nobody ever had a hope of beating him and so every battle did not feel like "oh wonder what will happen" or "oh no, hope someone doesn't die", it felt like "what plot device will show up this time"), and Mr. Satan cheesed up the show.

Fusion dance and SSJ3 made everything even more over the top... Seriously, dafuq is with Goku's hair?

It was alright. I liked some bits of it, but over all it was probably the weakest saga in DBZ.
Although at least it didn't have the Cell saga probably of switching who the bad guy was constantly.

I like parts of it, but overall I think it did fall flat. Definitely the weakest DBZ saga, as the poster above me said.

I agree. They ruined Gohan's character in that saga.

Yeah. It was pretty horrible... Cell Saga was good, but DBZ started falling apart as soon as Frieza died.

The Cell saga was a clustered mess due to editorial pushing for constant changes.

-Fat Buu wasn't funny. He was just ridiculous.

-a nearly indestructable healing factored villian right after another?

-Gohan was way less impressive than he should've been before the Old Kai training (explained via plot, but still...). Even then, he didn't get to finish Super Buu or take part against Kid Buu. I'm biased because Gohan is my favorite, but his awkwardness and rustiness were just irritating. Thats not a warrior and rightful protector of the Earth.

-Mr Satan was horrrible and his two redeeming moments could've been ignored with a better plot. All the lying and glory hogging made me sick.

-Fans will hate me, but Vegito was entirely unneccessary

-KRILLIN HAD HAIR. Toriyama should have ended it at the Cell saga with a short followup story about Gohan. Mmmm, Gohan...

Uh... Buu was actually underpowered compared to the sayains. That's why he had to absorb people to keep up.

And I agree that fat Buu sucks, even if he is hilarious at times. They should have just started with Super Buu and then had Mystic Gohan kill him like he said he was going to (but never did.)

Oh, and Cell sucked outside of his first form. He was menacing and inhuman and then he literally transforms into a giant douche who never shuts up about how sexy he is.

What DBZ arc wasn't flat anyway? They're all the same. Linear crapfest. Now DB, that had story! Adventures, battles, humor, it had em all. I even prefer GT's arcs over DBZ's. They had more substance. DBZ's appeal wasn't in the stories. It had none. Finding quality story from DBZ is like finding drama and character development in porn. DBZ's appeal came from the action.

Exactly, but Majin Buu's saga was especially bad.

Cell only did that because editors complained that his first form wasn't sexy enough.
I wish I was kidding.
Then again he was only the villain because the editors didn't feel the androids were threatening enough. (Thus why they go from killing everyone in the future to faffing about forever in the current timeline)

Very arguably.

To be honest, it wasn't very moving, not to me at least.

But I suppose the series didn't have very many great scenes, so it probably was one of the best, even if the best isn't that good.

Personally, my favorite is and always has been, when Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time. It's pretty powerful even for a show in which people explode with great frequency.

That's why we watch Dragon Ball Kai. Everything bad about Z was removed for Kai.

The Buu Saga had two good moments, Gohans "Fight you? No, I want to kill you", and Vegeta's sacrifice. That is literally it. Everything else sucked.

I'll admit, Gohan's line was pretty freakin' awesome. But then he failed. As usual.

As I said though, I just don't feel moved at all by Vegeta's sacrifice. Maybe I'm just cold hearted?

For me the whole Future Trunks, Andriod, and Cell Sagas were all my favorite parts. Before that whole time I was never truly interested in DBZ (was more of a Gundam guy). My favorite moments came from that time period. As far as the Majin Buu saga went, I just couldn't hold any interest in it. Still here's my favorite moment in DBZ, Just check the last 30 seconds.

Ugh don't mention it. That Saga was so drawn out even as a kid I skipped some episodes because I lost interest. And Majin Buu was silly even for this series, after some great villains like Freeza and Cell, that was a disappointment.

@minigunman123: True, without all the screaming and stuff though DBZ would have been much much much shorter, because many episodes were composed of nothing, but screams. I wonder if any of the voice actors ever passed out in their booths from oxygen deprivation or whatever it is you get when you scream too long.

Actually, the guy that acted out the voice of Goku stated once in an interview, that he passed out in the booth once, and they had to make sure he was alright; too much screaming. He says it was lucky that the booth was padded, or he could've really hurt himself.

It was decent enough. I actually like SSJ3 as the hair looked cool IMO and the form made sense. It gave Goku a massive power increase at the cost of dangerously draining his energy. And Ultimate Gohan and Vegito was badass. But I have to say Buu was a lame villain as was Babidi. Plus Goten and Trunks made the entire concept of SSJs pointless. Furthermore the 3000 Kiri prediction of SSJ Goku has given me plenty of grief in recent examination of whether DBZ characters are as powerful as they're made out to be.

GT literary made everybody who wasn't goku, pushed to the background.

So did Z. Tons of teasing that almost made Gohan the main character but didn't push through with it. Almost every DBZ arc was like that. Villain comes, Goku is somehow not available, Z fighters battle with the villain but fail, Gohan shows promise but comes out short (insert Piccollo saving Gohan, especially in the OAVs), Goku goes and saves the day. A wee bit different with Cell's ending but when Buu arrived, the same thing happens. So linear. So predictable.

GT was at least a sort of self-ripoff of DB with its adventures focusing on kid Goku. Some journey here and there. Fights not lasting gazillion episodes. Non-uber serious villains (except with the last 2 arcs). At least it was less predictable and less linear. And tons of fan service. Yes, it wasn't a masterpiece a wee bit of a watering down in terms of action. But story-wise. It was ahead of Z.

DB ending with Frieza actually would have pissed me off, I mean seriously let's say Goku does hypothetically die on Namek along with Frieza, then what's stopping Vegeta from blowing up the Earth or simply taking the dragonballs, not Gohan nor Piccolo, so Goku's sacrifice would have been in vain if it just ended with Frieza's death, I mean yeah I agree that the Buu saga sucked and that Buu was a lame villain but from that saga we had great characters in Vegito, Mystic Gohan and Gotenks but story wise it was stupid. Someone said it was terrible because krillin had hair but Krillin with hair was freaking awesome. Anyway I honestly don't think Z should have ended then, i honestly think that they should have switched to the main timeline(Trunks's future) and focused on his adventures and maybe have him go to New Namek in an arc where he's beaten badly and have them revive Future Gohan after Trunks's badly injured or outmatched or something
