I just wanna know the real score because our media/maps stated that it's a Philippine territory and not China but China is really stating that it's theirs.

What can you say about it? Who is telling the truth?

I'm scared because I know that the Philippines cannot defend if in case the issue gets worst. :(

China didn't give a shit on those islands long ago.. until the massive oil discovery estimating up to 60 to 200 billion barrels. Some of those islands like pag asa island had already been occupied by filipinos but philippine navy is weak as a sick dog and can't do jack shit to the chinese navy. China will eventually have those islands slowly but surely as philippine government is too busy stealing public funds.

@chibi_cute: Or they can rush in and take over by force, and if Uncle Sam tries to involve himself, China will take him by the balls since everything's made by China or Japan these days.

Yep! SHITNA is slowly draining away in resources. So do what is logical, take what belongs to others.

I see. So you think that's a reason good enough to say that that the Philippines own it? Because, let's say they didn't give importance to those islands, but if they really own it, then even if there are filipinos occupying some of those islands, then China would still have the right right since it's still their land. Am I right?

Chinese economic growth has gone severely down to 7.5% recently. Investment is fading and consumption is falling. They promised their people double digit economic growth indefinitely. They now need to spur nationalism and resentment of other Asian countries to keep their population from dismantling the government.

To add to this, the Chinese government has a bizarre view of history. They seem to believe that everything that a Chinese explorer ever came across somehow belongs to China, as if dozens of other empires had not already existed in the region in question for sometime. This is particularly true in western China, where Turkic and Mongolic groups existed long before China (and at one point conquered China in unison), yet China feels entitled to all of sovereign Mongolia, the entire Russian Far East (what they call "Northern Manchuria"), and now renewed claims to thousands of inhospitable islands in the East/South China Seas, despite the fact that at least five other nations all lay claim to these islands, particularly Vietnam and the Philippines.

What? Japan is under the US nuclear umbrella. Nuclear war with Japan equates to nuclear war with the US, which equates to China in ruins.

That's why he said if there are no consequences.

There are, as you mentioned. Japan is essentially a modern day vassal of the US. We have a huge military presence in their country and they are one of our top economical partners.

China doesn't want to go to war with the US either way though, because if they do we'll have a reason to ignore all our debt to them :P

Not to mention, while China's navy is good enough to bully around the tiny asian countries it neighbors...the Chinese navy would get promptly shit on by the US navy.

China's ownership of T-bills is exaggerated. Japan owns more than China, and China is in desperate need of American currency to intervene in FOREX and artificially suppress the value of their own currency to incentivize exports. Japan did the same thing in the 80's, and it ended with a massive crash in Japan and almost three decades of what has been termed "stagflation".

On that note, the notion that an integrated world economy and a complex network of various countries owing other countries massive amounts of debt did not prevent war in World War 1.

Not to mention, while China's navy is good enough to bully around the tiny asian countries it neighbors...the Chinese navy would get promptly shit on by the US navy.

Even if the United States missile shield was not covering Japan, and the Japanese military was forced to change its doctrine, power projection, and revamp their nuclear ambitions, war would be extremely unlikely. Even though I informed another gentleman that economic entanglements and investments do not totally prevent war from occurring, they certainly deter it.

For example, the amount of Japanese foreign investment in China (we will exclude Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau) is around $7.28 billion , although that has suffered from a downward trend due to hostilities. However, over $7 billion in direct foreign investment from the notoriously frugal Japanese companies and investors is nothing to scoff at. A war with Japan would further constrain supply lines, which Japanese companies have a great deal of control over. Even without US assistance, China could be severely affected if Japan led an economic coalition to cut off China from supply lines (impacting the export economy, and valuable inputs like iron ore and coal), impact their companies on the Nikkei index and shut them out of the center of Asian finance, which is still Tokyo, and finally create a trade bloc between other nations without China. China would be crippled in a few years, and would either face trying to start a nuclear war (Japan would've already developed weapons of its own to create a MAD scenario), or ceasing its activities.

Calling Japan a US vassal is foolish, because it ignores the power and influence that Japan wields in the economic realm. They're perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and developing the relations and capabilities to keep China at bay. Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe have become immensely good friends, lately...

@illuminatus: No oen said they weren't capable of taking care of themselves. Canada was once essentially a vassal to the British - and they were fully capable of taking care of them selves too.

It doesn't change the fact that they have very strong ties to a stronger (military power) that would intercede on their behalf should war break out.

China thinks they own everything in the Pacific/South China sea. Realists would argue that they are right since "the strong do what they want and the weak suffers what they must".

China has no one who can challenge them in Asia now. They're the largest military, the only nation with FUNCTIONING nuclear capability, the largest economy IN THE WORLD--thanks pointless wars, American government--and they represent a MAJOR financial trading partner of the U.S. that ought to keep the U.S. from doing what they love best in fighting wars.

The islands are China's. Everything in that region is China's. Japan, Korea and the Philipines shouldn't expect the U.S. to intervene because we don't want to fight the Chinese. They have nukes and they control our financial sector.

@superguy1591: China is literally bigger than USA, and size is one of the main things we use to try to bully other nations. Like the middle-east (Israel basically treats USA like a pet lion). That's why I said China has Uncle Sam by the balls in my previous post.

China would claim Hawaii if they could. Problem is, they are tougher then any other country in that region, and the US wont do a thing because China has them by the short and hairy economically.

@illuminatus: indeed it did not prevent WWI, but, then again, wars were easier to start in WWI since men believed that war was fought for honor and that it nationalism was high in European societies.

In this day and age, no American wants to fight another war after Iraq and Afghanistan.

China wont do anything to provoke a war with the U.S. because they know that if they stay out of conflict with us, they will surpass us.

And you're right, our debt isn't a way to keep the U.S. under China's control. If we beat them in a war, we can wipe out all debt from them. Plus, if the U.S. refuses to pay back their debt, China can't sue us. It's more a symbolic hold, not an enforceable one.

No, not really. The PRC has economic sway in the United States, but I would say that Europeans have a far larger one. You also have to keep in mind that the shipping lanes that China uses are maintained by the US Navy, all of those export firms and holding companies in China are an extension of Western economies, not China's domestic economy. Their consumption is growing, but the majority of Chinese have wealth levels comparable to that of sub-Saharan Africans.

If you watch the video you'll see the PH is doing something but PH cannot rival China in its current military

UN Court will decide things in 2016(what i remember) that the chances are high for the PH 2 win but if China uses military force United States, Japan and Asean States will help also the United Nation will be force to move if a super power move without cause belie or justification in war

It's in dispute.

Or at least it was, but President Obama and Hillary pivoted to Asia, so I'm sure it's all fixed now.

China has a long history of claiming a great deal of territory outside what is recognized in the international communit y. This will not change anytime soon.

@illuminatus: the notion of debt and the need for resources are responsible for a frightening number of wars. I think a strong argument can be made war is inevitable provided a monumental shift in how nations view their relationships doesn't occur.

I don't see nuclear war as an option for either. Terrorist organizations are more likely to perpetrate this sort of thing eventually. Or religiously motivated countries.

@jhazzroucher:

Yeah, my, "I'm sure it's fixed," comment was sarcastic. I'm not really up on the Phillipines issue though I did know China was claiming territory in the Pacific that didn't belong to them.

I was just taking the moment to jab at the administration's frequent "pivots," where they say they will give a subject specific attention, and of course, all of those areas the have pivoted to have become worse in the last six years.
