This thread is to discuss the drinking and history of tea, AKA the greatest non-alcoholic beverage of all time.

Facts about Tea

  • Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world aside from water
  • There are four major types of tea. Black, green, oolong and white. They all come from the same plant and the only differences is how the leaf is treated/processed
  • Tea has majorly affected the history of the world. Will expand on this later
  • Herbal tea isn't technically a tea, as herbal teas do not include parts from the plant Camellia sinensis. Instead they are technically infusions made from the leaves, roots, flowers or occasionally fruits/seeds of various other plants
  • Tea has several beneficial health effects, and does not cause a caffeine crash like coffee or energy drinks. Tea and some herbal teas have medicinal values, including soothing the digestive system. Tea contains antioxidants and is calorie free

Awesome History of Tea

Tea is the most important drink to all humanity except alcohol, and has as awesome a history

>Grown mostly through Asia as a medicinal drink
> Eventually the Chinese decided they liked to drink tea and exported it to Japan and the Middle East, who also liked it
>Dutch merchants in the process of setting up worldwide trading empire, import tea leaves to Europe, who also like it very much
>Chinese don't let them have plants though, feelsbad
>British then memes the Chinese out of a couple hundred plants by posting as a Chinese tea merchant

Fast forward a few years and things have ramped up significantly

>Britain has created a naval trade empire for the sole purpose of buying and controlling the production of spices and such things, mainly tea
>Blitzes through India and forces them to grow tea and opium or starve basically
>Britain puts itself stupidly in debt by selling all their silver to China in exchange for Tea and Silk. Decide to et all the Chinese addicted to their opium to drain the economy and increase British influence in China
>tfw this actually works
>tfw a war breaks out over it

At the same time

>Europe decides it likes sugar. Its used for cooking and such sure, but mainly its used for tea and rum.
>Britain decides to plunk down massive sugar plantations all over its new shiny colonies, but wait it has nobody to man them
>Ezclap fix, Spain and Portugal are already important slaves from West Africa, why not expand on that
>Massively destabilizes West Africa for that sweet sweet sugar to put in their tea

So all in all

>Millions of Africans dead and millions more enslaved
>China is broke and defeated, their tea empire is gone
>Brits and the Americas rolling in sugar/tea/slave wealth
>Literally everybody drinks tea
>MFW I am amused because every time I drink tea the amount of graves I am dancing on is beyond count

@edamame: Nah, whats it like

It tastes like regular tea with a Wheat or Bread flavor. You can find it in Korean stores, restaurants, etc. I personally love it.

Bread tea? Hmmmmm

Sounds unusual
