In the U.S.A Tobacco advertising was banned (mostly all) on June 22, 2010 for being bad for the public. Alcohol in many ways is as bad or worse than tobaco, so why should it still be allowed in media? Alcohol comercials and advertisement send a negative message that supports bad choices and makes it look like it's cool to drink. So why is it ok to have this advertiement, but not be able to advertise tobaco?

How is advertising alcohol justified? I am not trying to be politicaly correct or trying to band alcohol, but end the advertisement of showing it in some sort of positive light. Is this wrong in thinking that it is better for the publics intrest? What are your thoughts on the subject?

Alcohol itself isn't the problem. Alcohol abuse is.
And as long as it is legal to consume alcoholic beverages I don't see why their shouldn't be ads for it.
Just my opinion.

It's just a beverage.. lol so no.

Also if people are complaining about their children wanting to drink after seeing advertisement of it well instead of complaining they should actually go and do something.

But people can use tobacco and there are no ads for it. Even if a person is not a alcohol abuser he/she can still be harmed by the effects over the years.

That would deny me many entertaining commercials.
Although it would finally shut down that annoying radio one that steals the "With great power comes great responsibility" tweaked to be "With great beer comes great responsibility" from ever raising my hand in fury.

"Oh shit...you see that new beer commercial? "

"Yeah...I can't wait to go out and drink and drive...........you know...because that commercial is basically forcing it upon me"

"What about the other people who don't drink and drive, and actually drink responsibly?"
"i don't know...they must of missed this commercial"

Blaming your faults on media...is the most absurd thing in this world that I live in.

I honestly cannot stand anyone who is quick to blame the media instead of just blaming the sole person responsible.

Alcohol only kills you if you abuse it, or if someone clubs you over the head with a bottle of it.

Cigarettes are going to kill you. They're far more addictive, and there is no if, it's just a case of when.

I drink more than my fair share, but if tobacco ads are going to be outlawed, then yes, I believe it is only fair that alcohol ads should be, too. That being said, I also think more effort needs to be spent in teaching children about making educated choices and not basing their actions on what corporate marketing tells them is "cool." I drink because I'm an adult with free will and I choose to do so. I don't smoke because I'm an adult with free will and I choose to not do so.

I thought they banned the tobacco ads because of the high number of young smokers.
Alcohol doesn't get sold to anyone under 18/21 so you are banning commercial aimed at adults.
I see your point though the law is a bit hypocritical.

Im not talking about being drunk... Drinking over time is bad for the brain, liver, kidneys, and other organs. You don't have to be a alcoholic to get these things.

@VanTesla: This is something that i'm sure most people know about, but don't really care about it until they realize it's too late. Banning advertisements won't really do anything. It's the person's own fault if that happens.

You misunderstand me... I am not trying to put it all on the media or trying to blame them souly. Also any one that blames the media for their falts are ignorant, so I agree with you on that. You should try to atleast think that promoting bad habits is still bad for the people in whole no matter what kinda foul substance it is.

This. Also in every alcohol ad it say "Please drink responsibly." clearly stating it is not meant to be abused but enjoyed moderately

Done.

All alcohol commercials state to 'drink responsibility.' Even if it may look cool to drink alcohol in those ads, the manufacturers still encourage people to drink with caution. If people find it difficult to do that, then only the consumers can be held responsible for their actions.

Hence, I don't see a reason for banning such ads.

despite the many negative effects of alcohol, many, many people drink it and are pro-alcohol.
I'm certain this issue has been brought to the floor many times and denied due to the fact that
alcohol is promoted legally (drunk driving on the other hand) and the companies that produce
the stuff pay much money in taxes. the fact is despite seeing alcohol as bad, the majority currently
accept it as either great or not that bad.

Why advertise something that kills thousands of people every years? If you said "NO" then let's bring back tobacco advertisement too, sounds groovy?

How bout instead of banning commercials we star encouraging people to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions cause thats what we call being an adult. People were drinking long before the concept of advertising was even invented every time alcohol has been banned people still found ways to get drunk baning ads will have absolutely no effect on that. Anyone who disagrees with this fact is simply naive.

@9th Wonder: If alcohol is illegalized people will just go back to making it illegally just like they did during prohibition at least when its legal their are standards it has to meet to prevent it from being out right poison, every time alcohol has been banned deaths caused by improperly made alcoholic beverages and substitutions increased by at least 30%
