There is no way that's factual. I've read articles on it and what have you but there is just no way that the majority of gamers are female, at least in terms of "hardcore" (i.e non mobile) gaming. From my experience, i'd peg 10-15% of gamers female, though in reality it's probably lower.

Interesting results with the poll so far. To be honest, I was sort of expecting that there would be a higher % of female votes on the poll by now, but the thread is still new, so I'll give it a week and see how the results turn out.

Because that would be gender, not biological sex.

Most of the change is happening in Manga and Indie comics (especially Image) from what I've read. Manga actually has parity (in fact I think one of the polls I saw said there were actually slightly more women than men reading Manga in western countries).

The Comicvine userbase is mainly focused on Superheroes, that demographic has always been something like 90% male.

There are lots of girls here, and Manga sucks. The off topic section of this site is what is mainly dominated by males, and teenagers by the looks of it. A lot of people avoid off topic all together.

It is skewing even more heavily towards women as we go! It's almost 50/50 right now.

I don't usually say things that aren't backed up by some sort of evidence. Adult women are the largest single group of gamers now!

And most gamers don't play social games or play on their phones. That includes women, who make up 46% of the population.

So maybe they just aren't playing the same games as you?

As a woman who enjoys video games, comic books, anime and other stuff, it's frustrating sometimes when people think that women only contribute a small fraction of a percentage when it comes to things like this. Our numbers are growing! :)

@avatar_of_green: I know it's backed up by evidence, hence me saying i've read multiple articles on the matter. What i'm saying is that through my subjective experiences (and all the people whom i've played with) guy gamers significantly outweigh girl gamers. While it is true that they could potentially just all be playing single player games, I find it unlikely that the percentage playing single player games would outweigh the ones who play multiplayer by such a huge amount. And before you go there, the games i'm referring too it's practically required to use a mic so it's a null argument to say their mics are off.

Just gonna weigh in my two cents

There are actually a lot of us online. But a lot of us (and I mean a lot) don't bother talking online. Or we go into party chats with our friends. Why? Because a good amount of time when we speak out in game lobbies we get trash talked. Some girls like to trash back but majority of girls just don't want to deal with it, so they stay quiet. I'm like this. If I'm not playing with any friends, I don't talk (unless someone is doing call outs in the game, then I'll join in the call outs). And if I'm with friends, I go in a party chat. So we're out there, we just don't want to deal with the BS that comes with being a girl and loving to game online.

More than 90% of the readers of mainstream superhero comics are male. See, I feel that as president of Friends of Lulu I am betraying my own gender by sharing this information. But it is better that we know and move on from there.

The Superhero comic books are 90-95 percent men, while the Manga comics are probably 60 percent Women

@silent_bomber: All of those demographics are kinda old. Two from 2008 and another from 2012. Mine was just last year. Do you have anything that's from 2015 that can support those now?

@feral_nova: Oh no, don't get me wrong I know that a fair amount of every demographic are into gaming, it's by no means an exclusive medium. My point was that although females definitely play, from my experience on communication reliant games (DayZ, CS, Rainbow Six etc) where (practically) everyone in the lobby goes game chat (because if you don't the disadvantage is real), the amount of males I encounter per game is drastically disproportionate when compared to the amount of females. To me, whilst I understand why people go party chat in most games (I do myself tbh), in popular titles like these, if there really was an even split in terms of gender playing, wouldn't you run into many more females?

Yours is a measurement of Facebook likes, I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned that's pretty much meaningless.

I know waay too many people who "like" Marvel and DC on Facebook, but do not buy comics. Liking these things on Facebook is just as likely, if not more likely to mean they enjoy Superhero movies or superhero cartoons, or just general Superhero iconography.

To be fair though, a lot of women who just play outside of competition (so in regular lobbies and what not) choose to stay quiet because they will get pm's, asked for sex and all that, if they speak up. I've heard this said by plenty of female gamers.
