The theories for alot of things are there..............................the technology is whats lacking.............................we are not ready for all the things we will be able to achieve, that's why we can only make small steps. it's not time yet.
@SuperTide: What if the device malfunctioned and you came out as half man half chicken? Kind of like The Fly. I don't trust technology enough to risk it.

I wouldn't worry too much, while said invidual is in mid transport we can fire our phasers to take them out.
I figure if we can build a device to transport someone, we can build a device that would prevent said transport in certain areas.
