They are equal in my eyes. Rogue One was just a bit darker and more serious.
Rogue One or The Force Awakens, which is better?
Rogue One is a better movie in every way.
Rogue One is a solid war movie that happens to be in a Sci fi setting in the Star Wars universe.
The Force Awakens was just a horrible movie all around, the villain was a temper tantrum throwing emo, who evidently completely forgot he had certain abilities when the golden child of mary sues wants to fight him.
I seriously was hoping the bad guys woyld win in TFA because I just wanted all the heroes to die.
Watched R1 like couple hours ago and damn, i never thought it was so good! TFA is nothing compared to this movie. Better characters that u actually care about, action, fight scenes, tension. Rogue stomps TFA all night all day. Hope they step up their game with Last Jedi and took good notes from Rogue One! The only thing i was dissapointed about was lack of one more fight scene with blind guy and before the shockwave reached them they could atleast kiss each other not hug :p
Both were pretty good movies in my opinion. TFA was a lot funnier and had way more likable lead heroes than Rogue One. But I will have to say Rogue One simply because of the ending scene with Vader, which in my opinion is the greatest scene in the entire SW franchise.
Not to seem rude but I don't think the two should be compared. TFA was a rip off of A New Hope are far less well done. It had great effects and some cool moments but that is it. Rogue One was Star Wars and although I have my problems with it, the movie is far superior to TFA.

Seriously the character in the movie were okay at best which is not saying much. At least the action was great. Only thing Last Jedi have to take note is how to do great action scene, and please for the love of god no more tentacle, and stupid accent and bland character.
@modernww2fare: Mike actually revised his opinion of TFA in the Rogue One Half in the bag episode. He basically said it was a carbon copy of ANH, but that it was still a competent well made film.
I agree with him, I just thought RO was more original.
Rogue One, they were so afraid of making a new Star Wars movie with The Force Awakens that they remade A New Hope.
Rogue one by a long shot.
- More serious but the comedy moments were also better in R1 than in TFA
- more original than TFA
- Darth Vader only scene >>>>> Anything Kylo Ren did
- It made me feel sad at the end, TFA only made me feel disappointed
- Better action/war scenes
They're both disappointing but Rogue One is better simply because it isn't a shallow remake disguised as a fresh start.
Rogue One was too good. I was really surprised as I was walking out the theater. I loved TFA as well but it had minor flaws. I fully trust Disney to deliver quality spin-offs. Prequels looked like they were carelessly done, you can see the effort in the Disney stuff. Great time to be a SW fan.
Rogue One, by a lot.
Rogue One was a good war movie, with a good story and characters that just happened to be in the Star Wars universe.
Episode VII was a thinly veiled Mary Sue movie of rediculous plot lines and coincidences with probably one of the worst villains in blockbuster history. It cashed in on the Star Wars name and Disney marketing. It is not possible to redeem Darth Emo and make him look credible ever again, and to a lesser extent Captain Phasma, she is supposed to be a total bad ass in special combat armor but she gives up, and pretty much got all her teammates killed because some punk had a blaster pointed at her... and we will have to put up with Rey being the focal point of every plot for the next 10 years.
The Force Awakens is a lot better. I had a hard time caring for the characters in Rogue One and thought it was a bland movie.
As a Star Wars non-enthusiast, I vote TFA, simply because I could sit through it without falling asleep.
R1 and fairly easily
You mean to tell me that after 30 years the New Order makes a bigger version of the Death Star and still haven't fixed the main flaw that destroyed the smaller version??? The New Order death star was taken out by a man who worked in sanitation...WTF was that! R1 brought a trained platoon to crack into security. It was more believable
R1s planet battle incursion scene was intense. People die in war. In TFA, the new DS gets taken out by the janitor, a newbie trash picker, a geriatric pilot and Chewie...and they lived outside of Hans' stupidity.
The one that’s original and isn’t a direct copy of A New Hope.
TFA and New Hope both literally have a lucky Chosen One who struggles on a desert planet, gets away from said planet with the help of Han and Chewie, goes to a hidden Rebel/Resistance base which happens to be a forest planet, watches Death Star 1/Death Star 3 blow up planets that no one cares about, comes up with a plan to destroy the Death Star in like 30 seconds, and blows up the Death Star using the same weakness.
Literally the exact same plot.
Not sure, I don't even care that TFA recycled ANH since it was still a good film, Rogue One on the other hand while good too, had bad characterisation so I didn't care that much when they all died at the end
Revenge of the Sith
Best answer this whole damn thread lmao.

Whoa hang on a second. You didn't say we could name any movie. If that's the case then I vote The Dark Knight
