It's not really accurate to call network news stations "mainstream" anymore...

...but the answer is absolutely not.

There’s no source for perfect information, but you can probably extract truth from almost any source if you ignore the biased editorialization you’ll inevitably come across and critically evaluate the claims being made and evidence being offered. And part of being able to critically evaluate anything requires some understanding of the underlying subject matter being discussed.

No, because now it’s all about politics and gaining the ear of the masses. Don’t care if it’s left or right, I want my news not opinions dressed up as fact

No, Mainstream either covers up or tend to focus attention on things that aren't important. hell, they could of been discussing all the school shooting that have been happening to make people force the government to do something about it, but instead they shifted everyone attention to the Johnny vs Amber trial. Fun Fact: they're also try to cover up the fact that they were one of the groups that spread the word of Johnny being an abuser.lol.

Even removing politics I just don't like the insatiable greed and sensationalism they frequently engage in, in their quests for juicy stories

This question kind of needs to be dissected. The mainstream media, inevitably, is going to report on issues people are interested in seeing and hearing about, the ones that garner attention-hence why something like the Depp vs heard trial will be prioritized over some mass shootings-and of course, individual news outlets will have their biases when it comes to covering certain topics.

With that being said, if you have some degree of media literacy and don't end up in a bubble of only super left wing or right wing outlets, you'll generally be fine-media companies of this size aren't just going to outright lie when it comes to the facts of the matter(individual pundits are a different story), so you can generally get a pretty good picture of ongoing events if you read articles or watch coverage from a few mainstream news sources.

At any rate, I would argue that mainstream media is much better than any of the alternative medias like Facebook groups or YouTube channels-they're much more likely to be spreading outright misinformation.

I trust only proven Headway media at https://headway.media/. There are many interesting articles and interviews with famous people, they deliver both meaningful and entertaining information. Their articles help people grow to become better versions of themselves, I like the idea of lifelong learning and I prefer to read articles about caree&money and self-growth.

I somewhat trust mainstream media but all types of media have their own agenda, spin and lies.
