Lots of movies are way better than the best of MCU ones. But if I had to choose between watching single one very best movie to the end of my life or watching MCU movies in such situation, I'd go with MCU. So I don't think any movie solos. Maybe LotR or Unforgiven (which is mu favorite movie) come close.

None. Even movies like Whiplash and Joker, which I consider better than anything in the MCU, aren't enough to solo a franchise with movies as good as Infinity War and Civil War.

This thread should be locked, it's just bashing at this point. You can enjoy movies without tearing something else down.

Seriously, what's the matter with you guys?

MCU movies are generally multi-million dollar CGI action-spectacles filled with overused humors, cliche dramatic scenes, and pretentious themes.

All of the MCU films pretty much follows the same format with very little variations here and there.

I don't understand how can anyone feel any different watching them individually.

If you ever watched a single MCU movie, you can generally know what to expect and predict the "feel" of the other films.

In terms of the "feel" - "Predator", "Aliens", "Back to the Future", "Terminator 2", "Die Hard" did it way better except for the CGI spectacle part.

In terms of CBM movies "Joker", "Logan", "The Dark Knight", "Watchmen", "Sin City" are far more superior, engaging, and memorable over the entire pretentious Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As others have said, I doubt a single movie can top the collective MCU. However, CBMs such as Logan and Spider-Man 2 are better than any individual MCU movie imo.

Half the movies that people are listed are a joke and not even close to being better than the MCU,

However, three for me would be

  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Edge of Tomorrow
  • LOTRs first three movies

To say all MCU movies follow the same format would be absolutely ridiculous. There are similarities when it comes to the need to add humor and quirkiness in all of the movies, but other than that when it comes to story and character development their are big disparities.

Also to say those movies, especially Logan are far superior to the entirety of the MCU would be a comparison that doesn't really make sense. If you mean any one of those movies (other than Logan) are better than any one movie in the MCU I could sort of agree, but I don't know how one would develop adequate reasoning for the superiority of one film over entire franchise, especially when it's the MCU franchise.

Logan was pretentious crap btw.

@_logos_:

I tried to qualify the MCU here as one big, very long movie in order to make the comparison logical.

And yes it feels pretty much the same and consistent all throughout the run (though the quality do differs as many points).

Artstyle, cinematography, special effects, sound and music... all of them feels like your average modern day summer blockbuster spectacle movie. Nothing that we have never seen before being shown at the cinema every year.

Dialogues, humor, character personalties all of them are cliche and average.

There is nothing really special about anyones' acting performance.

Almost every lead characters act like smug, one-lining, comeback spewing ass-clowns that always wanted to one-up the next person beside them as if they are in some kind of competition.

(except for some few who clearly falls as side "butt-of-the-joke" characters).

Large cross over films like the Avengers, Age of Ultron, Civil War, IW, and Endgame pretty much consolidate these elements together but none of them reach to acclaimed critical level.

The problem with the "pretentiousness" of MCU is that the ambitious themes were not supported by any remarkable acting performance, the story writing is bland, and the narrative is average and predictable.

The major plots are generally pretty dumb, silly, and full of holes.

It handedly breaks any suspension of disbelief.

It tried to run on exagerrated controversial real world social issues using a platform that is completely unrealistic and unrelatable.

Logan, while having a cliche, overused story, at least have a decent acting performance,

The plot is more grounded and relatable.

It didn't add much ideas that stands out or are outplace in the context of the narrative, at least in my opinion.

There are tons of movies better than anything we've seen in MCU but if we collect all the 20+ movies it would be hard to say ''i'd watch this movie 20 times'' rather than watching 20 different, most of them, good quality, very enjoyable movies.
I guess I'd re-watch:

The three LOTS Movies.

Scent of a Woman

Silence of the lambs

Shawshank redemption

Godfather 2

Matrix 1

Braveheart

The Last Samurai

No Country for old men

Scarface

Leon the Professional

And that's what I can think of without opening a list. But probably there are more.

  • Joker
  • Forrest Gump
  • Terminator 2
  • Christine
  • Any of the Halloween movies except H20 and Resurrection
  • Ghostbusters
  • The OG Star Wars trilogy
  • E.T.
  • The first 3 Indiana Jones films
  • Almost all Pixar films
  • John Wick trilogy
  • Brightburn

Any and practically another 100 movies I could name tbh. MCU is overrated.
