Not an American thing you chingadera! It's USAmerican thing. Don't half-bake your political correctness.. ;) Nyehehe! Peace!
Why? Because, man. Because.
I see it on plenty of sites Ly, but it's generally used by Americans so I'd say yeah, it's an USA thing.
I mean, their census still ask what your "race" is, so, it doesn't surprise me
So weird. My country and their's share the largest, unprotected border in the world and yet we have different thoughts on the use of the word.
So politically correct xP
First of all, shaddap and second of all -- it's the actual word. Asking someone what their "race" is here just comes off wrong and awkward. We'll ask here, what's your background, along those lines but not what's your race. I can't imagine approaching say, an Asian person and speak to them as though they were a separate race from me -- as in -- hey, what does your race do for a good time back in the home country? See? So shaddap, Englishman. No political correctness here, it's a genuine observation. >:P
I know all that. But the real friction is promted by the use of the word, 'race'. People regress into politically correct 12 year old's or begin to chant about superiority.
Long live WASPS!!
I can see that. But I am thinking maybe it's a word used commonly in the States. That's pretty much what I was getting at.
There is no such things as different "races" -- ethnicity, sure. Impossible question to answer as everyone finds different things attractive.
Is this an American thing - a constant reference to "race" as is human beings are separate species according to ethnicity? I only see it on this site and this site has a predominate amount of Americans compared to others.
Well, many of us Americans tend to say that we are Irish-American or Italian-American and so on. I don't know if people do that in Canada, but I guess it has to do with America's immigration history. Almost every immigrant group that came to the U.S. faced discrimination, and that may have had an effect on this.
*shrugs*
That's the same here -- people will say they are Portuguese-Canadian, etc. but they wouldn't refer to themselves or others as being different races, just different backgrounds or ethnicity.
