Imao, this is by far the best option.

In this scenario saving the girl would be the most practical option, as an escaping kidnapper may not present a danger to anyone else, yet, while the danger to the girl is imminent.

Now, if there is an active shooter that is a shooting people indisciminately (and assuming I have the means to stop the shooter), then best option is to eliminate the current on-going threat before attending to any critically injured that might need first aid.

Save the girl, and there's a chance you can catch him again before he successfully kills another victim.

Go stop him, and you've guaranteed that he has at least one.

I'll save the girl. It's not her fault she's in this mess, and she deserves to live her life. I put myself in her shoes, and I think she would rather be saved than to die and have her kidnapper caught.

The purpose of stopping evil would be to save the innocent no? Saving the girl seems to be the most logical action to take in this situation.

The answer to this will obviously vary between specific instances and circumstances, but in general, I'd say saving innocents is more important. Evil will never be totally eradicated from the world, and whilst we should obviously work to defeat it as much as we can, the main purpose of stopping evil is to protect innocents.

Human lives are not numbers. The girl in this scenario deserves to live her life.

Preventing a casualty from taking place is crucial. The kidnapper might escape, but stopping him is less important than saving a girl's life. The police will probably arrest the criminal in the near future.

Sometimes stopping evil might come at the expense of innocent people's lives. Can't have that happening like it did during the Second World War, when two atomic bombs were dropped to force the surrender of the Japanese at the expense of many innocent lives.

The law is clear, doubt must always benefit the accused. This means that it is more important to preserve an innocent than to convict a guilty.

You have given an example of a girl hanging on a cliff and her kidnapper is running away. I would save the girl instead of run after the kidnapper. This is because the girl is struggling to hold on and could die if I did not help her get up onto safety. Also, after the girl is saved, the girl might be able to give information on how the kidnapper looked like so that he can be caught later.

The thread title and described scenario are two different issues; of course saving the girl would be way more important than catching a fleeing suspect. The thread title tends to invoke Noah's Ark, even after Jesus said that no one is good no not one except the Father, upon correcting a Disciple from calling Him good.
