Within one verse, Kendrick Lamar might have just reincarnated mainstream hip hop of old. You know, mainstream hip hop that used to actually be good? It's been a while, I know. But surely you might've heard what he did, but if not, give this track a listen. The important part comes towards the ends of his verse, but the whole verse definitely deserves a listen. His verse ends at 6:00.

Here's what he said:

"I'm usually homeboys with the same niggas I'm rhymin' wit

But this is hip hop and them niggas should know what time it is

And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale

Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake

Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller

I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you niggas

Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas

They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas

What is competition? I'm tryna raise the bar high

Who tryna jump and get it? You better off tryna skydive"

So he calls out: Mac Miller, Tyler the Creator, J-Cole, Big Sean, Jay Electronica, A$AP Rocky, Wale, Drake, and a slew of other rappers. It wasn't really a diss, but a sort of pep talk to bring rap back to how it used to be. And a slew of rappers have already responded with verses, even some not mentioned on his list. As a result, you have a slew of rappers trending worldwide due to their responses, and you have numerous people outside the world of rap chiming in. Such as Lebron James, and Phil Jackson, and Kevin Hart.

So what do you guys think? Did you like or dislike what Kendrick did on this track? Regardless of how people take it, it'll definitely be talked about not only weeks down the line, but maybe months and decades as well. As Russell Simmons stated earlier today, "Kendrick Lamar's verson on Control is an instant classic." And I definitely agree.

Me too. Section .80's release was when I was alerted to his skill. Poured through his previous work after, and have been a fan since.

Sounds less like how he's trying to inspire them and more how he's inspiring himself to be better than them.

I've listened to all the responses. Thus far, Joell Ortiz and King Los are 1 and 1A in coming back at Kendrick. They both came strong. If you want to hear the best responses thus far, listen to these two.

The part about him saying he was the king of New York(even though he's from the West Coast lol) is most likely just that. Though I do believe he was overall trying to tell these (in his eyes)talented rappers to step their game up. On a side note..

Love it. Hip-hop thrives on competition, the race to be better pushes all artists to make better music. If anything, K-Dot deserves this call-out, compared to his contemporary peers, I'd consider him to be the best among those mentioned.

I've just recently started to listening to hip hop in general, and Kendrick Lamar was my introduction to the genre. I'm interested to see if anything significant comes of this.

@russellmania77: @batmannflash: What are some good songs by Kendrick so I can Youtube them? thx

The Art of Peer Pressure, The Recipe, Sing About Me, ADHD, Opposites Attract.

@cheesesticks

You're missing the point...it's not a 'diss', it's a challenge and call-out. Obviously he doesn't have beef with these guys, this isn't Ether.

@evilvegeta74: I wouldn't say best verse of the year. I'd say it's DOPE but the best thing for me was the "dissing" part where he's like, I'm trying to make you're core fans forget about you and never want to listen to your music. or something like that.

I think there's been better verses before this year. He's had better and others have too but this one is especially DOPE for calling out everyone.

@pooty: "Look Out for Detox." I'll recommend. Plus, the one's VeeShark said are DOPE too. Opposites Attract(Tomorrow Without Her) is my personal favorite form that particular project.

Kendrick Lamar is a Quality Rapper... The Verse he laid down was Dope... it was not a Legendary Diss Track but it will make N!ggas Wake Up... and we need that right now in Hip Hop.

I just heard Lupes answer... and DAAAAAMMM I love Lupe. Always exceeding my expectations by taking a different route. You need to go to Harvard to be a Lupe Fan.

Ughhh so much FUN! Thank the Rap Gods for Kendrick Lamar. The world hailed King Kendrick.

Am I the only one who wants, J.Cole, Ab-Soul, Big Boi, MGk, and more to respond.

I specifically want j.Cole and AB to response since their close friends.I personally would love if Soul would respond. Starting off with something like Hey it's still TDE, Black Hippy and just goes off on some MAKE WAY BRUH.

What happens after everyone responds? What are people hoping will happen here? Do we want "beef" between rappers again? Will a "diss" make you rap better or something? Shouldn't pride in your craft make you do your best? It's something to talk about right now but I don't know what the long term effects are supposed to be.

I'm trying to murder you n!gggas. make it so nobody heard of you n!ggas. if that's not a diss then it is an aggressive call out. and I'm sure some artist will take it as a diss regardless of his intent.

@pooty: It's more of a sparring session. They is no malicious intent. Just sportsmanship of being the Top MC.

What I want to add is that Kendrick said he was the King of NY as in he's the most popular MC everywhere. As in he is the King of Hip Hop at the moment. PS. I think Cassidy's, Fred the Godson's, and B.o.B's responses were Light.

I honestly think Joell and Lupe have the best response. I love Lupes **** u aint NaS **** you aint Jay-Z.

A little off-topic but has anyone heard the new Eminem single from his new album that premiered in the Ghosts multiplayer reveal yesterday? Easily the best part of the show! This is why I used to listen to hip/hop.
