Will Smith reveals his 14-year-old son Jaden wants to be emancipated
Will Smith was brought up by a military father who expected him to be seen and not heard.
But the upbringing that he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are giving their own children Jaden and Willow could hardly be more different.
They don’t punish them, instead letting them make their own decisions. And actor son Jaden has decided that for his 15th birthday in July he would like the gift of FREEDOM from his parents — and to be able to live in a home of his own.
Will, 44, revealed to The Sun: “He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place.
I wonder what the legal logistics for this are. Normally emancipation arises from some type of negative situation and all the mechanisms are in place to aid the minor similar to those mechanisms for spousal abuse. But even the legal language entails "best interest of the minor" which would assume a negative situation. How does this work when the parents are not contesting it and there is no evidence of a negative cause?
Also, how does a 15year old legally purchase a home, obtain utilities and live alone?
I think papa Smith should stop putting his son in movies, and let Jaden know that his 'career' is at daddy's behest.
But, what kid doesn't have delusions of granduer at that age? Even Will said it, "Parent's just dont understand."
@kuonphobos In short...they cant. Jaden Smith is being completely incredulous. Which is to be expected from an overentitled, overendulged child of that age.
