Is today's generation of Comic enthusiasts over-critical?
Nope. If you read the "letters page" from comics from the 70s, 80's, and 90's people pretty much complain about the same old stuff.

They certainly can be. My gripe with a lot of comic book fans comes more from elitism. "This movie sucked because it changed the characters and didn't follow the comics closely enough!" And there's also, "Well, TRUE [insert superhero here] fans would like it because [whatever stupid reason]." And let's not forget, "You don't read the comics; therefore, your opinion is invalid." They're like school bullies all over again.
No. There's always going to be ones who over critique it and ones who aren't as nitpicky or negative. It's just that with modern tech, the voices of the complainers are a LOT louder than those who don't. Think about it; the ONLY reason someone would rate something one star or five stars is if they hate it with a passion or love it feverishly. Very few of the majority will give a 2 or 3 unless they're reasonable reviewers.
Hmmmm. Yeah I think so but some stories and characterization were really good thus we want that continue. No one likes seeing their favorite character, series, team, etc fall from grace.
No more than comic book fans always have been. Look at old reviews at the back of comics, it's hilarious how little we've changed. I read one Spidey comic from the late sixties complaining that Peter wasn't growing up with his fans and that Marvel didn't respect their readers. lol I'm glad he didn't so that Spidey isn't my dad's age. Comic fans have always been critical.
I will always be a child at heart whenever I read a comic book. You like that superhero ? Then read about that superhero
@cattlebattle: Although I voted yes, you make a very good point.
If someone is thoughtful, really analyzes the craft of the book and expresses what they didn't like about it, that's fine. What I don't like is boneheaded fanboys dismissing a book with "This sucks" or "Fill-in-the-blank didn't show enough feats". I also think too often fans make a snap judgement about art if its the least bit unconventional. I read a lot comments like "Looks like a kid drew this" and "I can draw better than that". No it doesn't and no you can't.
I voted yes mainly because the internet is a big place with tons of miserable people and 30 years ago, they didn't have such luxuries..
Having just read Alan Moore's Swamp Thing last month. My standards are at an all time high.
The book changes the way you view titles. Things I thought were great, are only good or average now. Think that are ok, are sh1t.
In the sense that the standards are higher therefore your work must be better? Yeah, I guess.
This.
Also people have always been opinionated, thanks to the internet age you will hear more of those opinions instead of just the handful of people you know who read comics.
