Not in the sense of planets and universes but size and span? Like does the internet technically have an ending or is it ever expanding?
Is the internet a separate universe?
@castiel_18: @blackspidey2099: @death2heretics: so we humans technically created our first universe?
@03s7: No, I was just meming. The internet is large but it isn't infinite, so I wouldn't classify it as a universe. (even if it was infinite, IDK if I'd say it counts as a universe)
@blackspidey2099: I gotchu I was genuinely curious so I figured I'd ask my fellow geeks and nerds.
I considered at one point that the internet is The Beast from Revelation.
The beast rises out of the Waters which represent the people of the earth. These waters further represent the subconsciousness of humanity.
The internet is a manifestation of much that is repressed and hidden from daily life. It effectively takes the Beast within you and brings it out, (check your metadata record).
It gradually makes unacceptable things more acceptable as we all watch and read more and more taboo things.
Just something I considered a few years ago.

Jeez.
The internet is a universe that contains infinite posibilities.
And Mark Zucc is TOAA.
To answer your question:
NO!
If our universe ceases to exist, so does the internet. The internet can never be infinite because we can't produce infinite storage, we won't even come close to the same proportions as our observable Universe. there are about 10 to the power of 80 atoms in the observable universe, imagine the size of the hard drive to take all that in.
So:
Is it a separate universe? No, it exists within our universe and is dependent on it too.
1. Does it have an ending/2.is it ever expanding?
Yes and yes and no.
1. The Internet is only as big as its storage, it always has its limits.
2. Yes it is currently expanding and it will continue to do so, we will never reach the wall, as we won't even be able to reach maximum theoretical storage space.
But with the maximum theoretical storage space in play, it is safe to assume that once the amount of data needed to fill said storage has been uploaded, the Internet, will stop expanding.
The quickest way to filling the maximum theoretical storage space would be with some sort of storage space virus, I imagine some country sized barney jpegs multiplying rapidly would do the job.
@renchamp: my bad, I was going to delete it but you beat me to it
@gear4god: are you saying two universes can't exist simultaneously?
@crash_: so cyberspace isn't technically a space it's just storage space?
Grab a notebook, write something on it, the notebook is now as much as a universe as the internet.
For it to be another universe, it would have to exist on a different plane independent from our own and independent from anyone for that matter, we created the internet, we used matter from this universe to create the internet, we are a part of this universe. 1 solar flare could destroy the internet that we love and know and along with it all the technology we have, the internet is a service that can't exist without our support, the internet will die with us, the only thing that could possibly remain after our withering, is space time-capsules, which do have videos. audios, pictures, books etc stored and even they will not exist for very long, they are space package without a receiver address.

That's a fascinating theory.
@spareheadone: ....huh.
