Not that I've seen. There will always be racism, but I haven't seen a jarring amount of it in Nevada

A lot of people automatically assume I'm a racist because of the color of my skin.

You guys do realize that you don't have to be a KKK member or Nazi that goes around talking crap about and hanging other people groups to be considered racist right?

If you see racism happening and don't act against it then you're guilty; A sympathizer. If you see injustice going on don't act against it, its the same as giving it the thumbs up. A passive form of racism is still racism.

I live in a town of about 30,000 in western Kentucky. Get enough white people together and the N-word will get thrown around. I've been in an interracial relationship going on 11 years, most of my friends are in interracial relationships with mixed race children, all mostly without incident. So, while its racist, it's at least a quite racism.

I've never had to deal with any racism as far as I can tell in my entire 20 years of living.... and instead of being a victim of police brutality, cops has given me rides and sh!t..I guess that makes me a honorary white dude...

I added in the last part of my comment because it appears a common belief nowadays is white people are mainly the racists and or the only people who can be racist... I have talked to multiple ignorant people who feel that way.

Of course its on both sides people will make up things and see what they want to see even if its not there. There are some genuine cases of it. As long as there are idiots on both sides there's always going to be a divide.

Used to be, my city was the (or one of the) KKK capitol(s) of California, however just like the rest of Cali us mexicans are the majority :P so nope racism isnt a problem, not from the cops or civilians.

Very much so, as I currently live in the southeast of the United States, somewhere between Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. But, it's not as bitter as one would suspect. It's more of a mellow situation where everyone seems to know their boundaries. It's probably more that the Caucasians in this area are tolerating the status quo versus legitimately trying to accept it such as seem to be the case in other places like New York, Boston, or Los Angeles; they probably feel extremely comfortable in the potential for police brutality, should the right type of circumstances come to pass.

But, on one hand, from my perspective, the Caucasians seem more humbled, but silently make assumptions about someone who appears to be African American. On a couple of occasions, I came across a couple of medical staff members who legitimately was impressed with my ability to know about and discuss medical terminology; they were impressed with my vocabulary and the unusual way in which I speak educated from their perspective; I felt that I might immediately be hired in a medical position, if it were up to the medical staff, but it would be up to human resources and managers, where my problems lie. I was advised to consider pursuing an education degree, considering my background and the length of time I've been unemployed by one of these people.

However, the dark side comes out when I actually try to get hired or do business with people. I was unable to sell high demand computer products for a number of weeks, when dealing locally; basically, I was unable to sell a very valuable and high demand computer product, simply because people could gauge from my voice that I might be African American (e.g. this happens, when you're around a certain group of people, after a while); but, once I put the product on eBay, it immediately started a bidding war, even though I had no seller's rating; I've also sold computer products very quickly on other, similar national websites like Amazon. And, I've been denied employment numerous times; I even had a situation where I could definitely raise the issue to the EEOC and have a strong case; but, I was previously in Seattle, and I was unable to get hired there because I remain in employment litigation with my former employer, where I'm getting black listed; so, being here, it's hard to tell whether it's because of blacklisting or discrimination, that actually caused my applications to be rejected, but I know racial discrimination is a huge part of employment decisions; but, I was surprised about the environment in Seattle; having a chemistry background, I only recently learned that I probably should be somewhere in or near Vermont; apparently, not being properly located, I've literally wasted over tens years displaced from a geographic area for my profession, and I was still somewhat young; they're really looking for chemists in that area of the United States, but, opportunities for chemists occasionally come up everywhere; I'm just getting close to pulling the trigger on pursuing my PhD in Physics; and, than, maybe a medical degree, after that, when I'll go into research in a University, and start publishing scientific papers.

But, back on topic, depending on how you approach your social life, I'm guessing that there's probably still plenty of racial tension in this area and discrimination in the areas where it should have been eliminated is still well established in this area (e.g. in areas such as lending, business, housing, and employment); it's just intensively passive, but seems like a steam pot just below the point of erupting; the people who may be bigots at heart are smart enough to avoid openly expressing their true bigoted feelings. However, depending on where you're at, issues with interracial relationships are gone, in urban areas such as Montgomery, Huntsville, and Birmingham, but, in certain small towns, where you may be isolated, I would reluctantly test out as an African American, as it's unknown or very doubtful, and, should something still be there, and take place, I'd be out somewhere miles away from a metropolitan area, where one's remains could be discovered years later, if ever, should a lynching occur.

Sure, racism is an issue everywhere in the US. Just because you don't feel it personally doesn't mean it isn't happening all around you to others. Society may have moved away from blatant racism, but subtle, unconscious racism is still as prevalent as ever.

Racism towards "white minorities" is more common here, which is why I usually find comments about "whites should check their privileges" etc ironic.
