Is Michael Bay really the worst director ever?

Rotten Tomatoes state his movies suck ass. never a fresh rating outside The Rock and even then not that good.

Yet, his dominance in the box office is always clear. Up there with guys like Cameron and Spielberg in how much money his films make!

How does this shitty director make so much money when clearly critics show he has no talent? Or maybe, just maybe, he is pretty good at what he does. You decide.

He's great at what he does but the vast majority of those aren't good movies in the sense of writing and acting, and I think that's what critics are looking for. Audiences mostly want visuals, action and some humor, all of which Bay provides.

While he's by no means great but he's not as bad as some people say he is. There are some movies by him at I do like like the first Transformers movie.

I do think there are much worst directors out there COUGH Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer COUGH.

Audience score is what really matters. Just dont over analyze the movies and you will enjoy them

He prefers to make dumb blockbusters but when it comes to actual directorial talent, he's not half bad.

no way on Earth. Some of his movies are actually good. His movies also make money. Armageddon and the Rock were good movies imo.

Their review standards just don't apply to the kind of mindless, visual "entertainment" which Michael Bay provides.

Is he a visionary of the cinematic art, hell no.

He does however know how to make movies that people will see.

Lloyd Kaufman, Paul WS Anderson, Uwe Boll, Roger Corman and 100's more are much worse.

M. Night Shyamalan's has the sixth sense, Split, Unbreakable, and Signs as 4 very successful movies with both critics and box office. He isn't close to being as bad as Bay. That is kinda an insult to him. The Sixth sense was nominated for 6 oscars and ranked as top 200 best rated movies on IMDb.

I don't think many people call him the worst or worst ever. Though a bad or average director? Yeah I can see that. But I do think he has a couple decent movies and maybe the ability to make a great movie. It's just that he loves making those garbage Transformers movies.

There are other directors much more worthy of this "worst ever" title.

His movies are enjoyable to watch so not the worst.

Michael Bay is a genius, he don't give 2 f's what critics say, he only cares about what audiences want to see. Which, if were being honest here, is how you make money. If he was trying to make a critic perfect movie, he'd spend more money on actors and less on visuals/etc (what ppl want to see). If I wanted to see Brad Pitt, I'd watch Troy. How many critic friendly movies have gotten the attention Transformers has received?? Michael Bay is a GREAT director. It's like school, you can get all A's, but suck in business since you're going by the books and not experimenting. Or you can get all C's and become a billionaire, since you know what ppl will buy. #MichaelBay, f*** critics make money lmfao

No, but he is sort of the poster child for unimaginative and overly patriotic movies. His movies are watchable afternoon affairs that are good to have around when dealing with a hangover or something.

As for who's worse... well there's Uwe Boll, who's highest rated piece of work has an RT score of just 45%, has a habit of mauling videogames into movies, and just comes out with movie stinkers.

Hack Snyder is solely responsible for ruining a series that could've been great. Any movie in the DCEU except WW has been a 3/10 or 4/10 and its his fault. He should stick to movies like 300

I am a huge movie guy, and I love bad cheap "B" movies. I have quite a few Troma movies in my collection. They have an appeal of their own style, I guess.

If a movie is crap, but everyone knew it was going to be crap going in, and they just ran with it, like the Troma movies it is cool because you know it will be so bad it is funny.

What I hate is when a director thinks they are making a serious and we'll made movie but they just suck at it and the movie is a train wreck, like Cabin Fever.

Anyway anyone who says he's the worst is using hyperbole. You can't legit say he's the worst with movies like The Room in existence.

Not at all. His movies tend to be bland, but there are definitely good ones in there. Pain & Gain, for one...
