Incident In Manchester Multiple Fatalities
Happened at a Ariana Grande concert unknown cause yet though I have seen people saying it was a transformer that blew out but cause is unsure as of yet
@mysticmedivh: I've seen some saying a bomb some saying transformer exploded or something
If a bomb managed to get in the security did a shit job cause every concert I've been to here you're not allowed a bag and everyone gets searched
@mysticmedivh: ffs lmao!
I think it is likely a bomb atm just seen a video and the bang is pretty damn loud I'll wait till an actual report though
@mysticmedivh: I mean now you're putting me on the spot to explain it which is pretty hard for me cause all I know is it is a device that can reduce or increase voltage of an energy current. They're like on power lines n stuff
Apparently 20-30 deaths many kids, this is bad
That's from witnesses who said they saw 20 - 30 people lay unconscious, they may or may not be dead, the police haven't given any numbers yet.
@rogueshadow: Hope that's true seems bad though hopefully deaths will be at a minimum. But yea you're right should hold off judgements till police make a statement otherwise just speculation
@mysticmedivh:Yea that's better than my explanation lol
Lucy Powell (a politician in Manchester) just tweeted:
"I've spoken w @AndyBurnhamGM This is a major incident targeted at our city. Our hearts go out to all & our gratitude to emergency services."
In addition, it's now being treated as a possible terrorist incident according to the Home Affairs correspondent.
Read that the explosions came from balloons that were filled with gas. World is getting crazy
Greater Manchester Police are treating it as a terrorist attack.
There's going to be a controlled explosion in Cathedral gardens (city centre) - another explosive device.
It's a terrorist attack. No doubt.
Edit: Okay, now they're saying it was precautionary and that it may have been abandoned clothing.
If it is a bomb then the security at the stadium is a pile of shit ni bags are usually allowed in and searches always happens anytime I go a concert

Sounds like the explosion was actually just outside the building.
@rogueshadow: oh really? I thought it was in one of the stands or something

GMP should give an official statement soon to confirm what happened, but the BBC is saying reports indicate that it was in the foyer/perimeter of the building.
@rogueshadow: feel like they should at least know the nature of the cause by now I heard they're treating it as a terrorist incident atm. But surely if it was a terrorist incident they would've announced by now.
Also you from the UK I take it?

Theresa May has said the police are treating it as an 'appalling terrorist incident', seems like they just haven't done the official statement to the press/public yet to go through the details, the official statement was supposed to be about an hour ago, obviously they're extremely busy.
I'm from Manchester.
@rogueshadow: Yea true probably making sure there's no chance of another one somewhere and trying to make sure everyone is safe.
Oh damn, hope everyone you know is okay and safe

Thankfully nobody I know (so far as I know at least) was going to the concert.
@rogueshadow: Good good glad to hear.
Were you anywhere near the stadium? because I've seen people saying they heard the explosion from a fair bit away could you hear it?

I live a few miles away.

It does no good to jump to conclusions until you actually know what's going on.
lol @ how you guys were slow to assume terrorism
@mysticmedivh is absolutely right. It does no one any good to start speculating and shooting in the dark. Which is why I typically wait awhile before I start posting my FACTS posts on this sort of thing, because people like to start posting rumors and suspicions willy nilly. Fortunately there's not much of that going on with this one.
I will say, other than you @kute , no one has said anything about Trump...
FACTS AT THE MOMENT:
- At about 10:30 (Manchester, England time) an explosion occurred outside the foyer of the main hall of the Manchester Arena where the singer Ariana Grande had just finished performing and the crowd was starting to leave.
- The authorities suspect the blast came from either an abandoned backpack or a suicide bomber, a senior American intelligence official said. British officials said they were investigating reports that a suicide bomber detonated an improvised device containing nuts and bolts as shrapnel. No group or individuals have claimed responsibility at this time. However the British police are treating the incident as a likely terrorist attack.
- 19 people are confirmed to have been killed, at least 59 more people have sustained injuries. No information about the names, ages, or genders of the casualties has been released.
- British police committed a "controlled detonation" of a "suspicious package" in a nearby area area several hours after the first explosion occurred.
- Several nearby hotels have taken in people from the Arena (mainly in the lobbies) who could not get to their homes immediately for shelter and to recharge cell phones to call family and friends. Many taxi drivers turned off their meters and drove stranded Arena goers to homes or other places of shelter.
- Rail service at Manchester Victoria (of which a station was directly adjacent to the Arena) has been suspended and will be closed thru Tuesday.
- Injured are being treated at six different hospitals in the region.
That's all the facts for right now. I'll do my best to keep this updated.
FACT UPDATE:
@rogueshadow is unfortunately correct...the number of dead has risen to 22, some of whom are children. The male attacker is definitely among the dead. It is still unclear whether or not the attacker was a suicide bomber or if he was killed accidentally by his own explosive device.
First the Westminster attacks now this , its the largest attack in the UK since the 7/7 bombings
Fortunately even this wasn't as bad as 7/7, and hopefully nothing ever will be again. I'd love this to be some lone wolf nut job, but with the level of sophistication of the device I think it's a bit much to hope for.
Granted the targets this time were particularly more despicable.
I've seen a video doing the rounds on Twitter of an alleged ISIS member/supporter claiming responsibility for the attack, but could just as easily be a lone extremist loon. You never know where social media is concerned.
Police still yet to officially confirm if this is a single attack or part of a cell.
I'm deeply saddened to hear of a terrorist attack in the city I was born in. My condolences to those whose lives have been lost and the bereaved families. Whoever's responsible for this, if it was an intentional terrorist attack, is a cowardly POS for attacking a concert where children were in attendance.
@lvenger: the Manchester police have came out and said it was an intentional terrorist attack, it was a suicide bomber according to them.
@mimisalome: I seen that ISIL supporters were celebrating the attack, so may be them.
