Do what you want to do. For me it was never a question I’d be the one proposing.

It doesn't matter, but the man should. Wait, is that contradictory?

Either, it doesn't matter. In any case, I'd rather have my partner propose to me, regardless of their gender.

I would personally prefer if Men take the initiative as they traditionally have, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter and I’m perfectly okay with that. I just hope I take the initiative myself before my girlfriend has any ideas lol.

Society encourages male to propose to reinforce their sense of commitment and responsibilities in the relationship.

This is also why we also expect men (in general sense) to value honor and commitment.

Unlike, female that would endure the burden of and vulnerability associated with pregnancy process and child-nursing/childrearing, males can readily opt out out of unwanted relationship without incuring such comparable risks.

It is very detrimental to human society if mothers are left without partners during their vulnerable moments bearing and rearing offsprings.

Hence we institute the family unit in such a way where males would take the most active and leading role to reinforce their sense of responsibilities

and we prefer to have them take the initiative to commit such a bow, so we can have a reasonable excuse to ridicule and blame them if they opt out.

@mimisalome:

Right, because historically the enforcement of outdated gender roles within society has prevented men from abandoning their families, has it?

Yeah, of course.

And it's not as if encouraging women to be strong, independent individuals who aren't totally reliant upon their husbands, would immediately dispell this entire argument of "enforce gender roles to protect women from scumbag men". Sure. Makes sense.

Men is somewhat more responsible, the guy may look soft in a perspective if the girl proposes to him. Men having words of courageous, chivalrous and courteous is the one should carry this plan.

When did I claim that such arrangement is fool-proof?

However, I would assume that since it is pretty much a universal practice across various cultures and societies, people actually consider the practical value in observing such system.

I would say that promotion of "strong and independent women" ideation, just for the sake of being "a strong and independent woman" is selfish ego serving.

We would prefer that both parents are fulfilling their parental roles as much as possible.

Parental roles between husband and wife/father and mother are supposed to be complementary

not a power competition or tournament of independence between spouses.

Don't mean to snoop, but by your phrase would it be safe to deduce you have several parners of different genders?

That makes sense.

I always thought that bis have got double the chances of finding their other half than exclusively straight or gay people. So I guess you have the odds in your favor.

Unless you already found him/her, in which case, you are also on the winning team.

It's good no matter how I look at it.

I can't really imagine women proposing since the tradition and expectations are so ingrained in me, but it shouldn't matter.
