Jackson and Travolta scenes alone solo this contest. I wasn't overly impressed with Goodfellas either, so, there is that.
No question...Pulp Fiction. It was a better movie and pretty much everyone of the bad guys were either redeemed (sort of) or got what they deserved by the end of the movie. What did the lead in Goodfellas get as punishment? A "boring" life paid for by the taxpayers that most people would dream of living. Screw that movie.
Goodfellas is the best film ever made.
They're really different movies. Goodfellas is pretty much perfect. Every scene is a punchline and it's masterfully written. A top tier crime/gangster film. Pulp Fiction is great and all, but it really isn't as good as Goodfellas. It's more of a pop culture type thing.
Let's think about it.
On one hand, we have Uma Thurman.
On the other, we could not have Uma Thurman.
Seems like a cut and dry case if you ask me.

That's a really interesting way of putting it. I'm thinking back to every scene that I remember, and you are largely right.
@heroup2112: "Goodfellas" was based off real event's. Henry Hill is very real and very much alive living in the witness protection program.
The movie couldn't just kill him when that isn't what happened.
On topic. I prefer Pulp Fiction but love GF

Yeah, and also even if it wasn't sticking to reality, I don't think a movie needs to punish all evildoers by the end. Goodfellas isn't trying to be that type of movie, wrapping it all up like that is just way too neat and standard. Henry's punishment is appropriate if you ask me. All he's ever wanted his whole life was to be a gangster. He can no longer be the person that he is and wants to be.
@the_hajduk: Exactly. To guys like that, the quiet life is torture. He isn't even sharing with his wife and kids anymore.
He can't even go on vacation. He has to stay in his small ass community forever.
Not to mention the worst of them were killed or incarcerated for life.
Nevermind he died and remarried.

We just have a different standard for movies. :) You have no idea how many times I was saying shoot him, shoot him, shoothim, shoothim shothimshoothim SHOOT HIM when his wife was standing over him with the gun. :)
@heroup2112: It's not even as if Pulp Fiction was significantly better in that regard. After all, Marsellus Wallace will continue to be a crime boss after the movie is over, and Sam Jackson's character never got any punishment for being a mob enforcer besides deciding not be one from now on.
Then again, Pulp Fiction did depict its criminals as lovable idiots, whereas Goodfellas depicted them as people who you think are great friends until they put a bullet in your head because they have something to gain from it.

Well, like I said they either got what they deserved (mostly...to which I was referring to Marsellus...though he DID get a little of what was coming to him), or were redeemed by which I was referring to Julius (Sam Jackson's character).
The only area Pulp Fiction can be argued to be better than Goodfellas in is the dialogue. The directing, the acting, the cinematography, the editing etc from Goodfellas was superior. In terms of the script, it was adapted from Wiseguys whereas Pulp Fiction was drafted from scratch by Tarantino so he could get more props there.
For directing, there isn’t a scene as masterfully crafted with metaphor and nuance in Pulp Fiction as the club scene from Goodfellas.
Goodfellas was based on a true story anyway so talk of what the main character did or didn’t get in punishment is kinda weird since Scorsese stayed faithful to the source material and real life story of Henry Hill.
That’s life, sometimes bad people get away with shit.

Which is the club scene?
The "and then he kissed me" scene? I checked out your blog, and it was a good blog, but I don't think there is enough there to skyrocket it as far ahead of Pulp Fiction as you are saying. I think a lot of the symbolism you listed falls under the category of searching for nuance, but I can point out a scene in Pulp Fiction with red walls and say this represents them entering hell as well.
Goodfellas, easily. Pulp Fiction was a classic, but I wouldn't even say it's Tarantino's best. I personally preferred Reservoir Dogs.
Goodfellas is the best film ever made.
Surprised at all of this... in what way possible is goodfellas >>> Pulp Fiction???
Character development - Pulp Fiction
Dialogue - Pulp Fiction (obviously)
Screen play/plot- pulp fiction (easily)
Hell, even cast VS. cast, I can make a solid argument for pulp fiction.
Pulp fiction out shines goodfellas in everyway with the one exception of being a mob movie, but Pulp Fiction is that and sooooo much more.
@captain_inverse: I think Goodfellas had better perfomances, plot, characterization (though yeah, not all that much in terms of development), cinematography and themes. So yeah, those are the areas I'd call it superior to PF.

No, just no. IMO the characters from PF are shallow and one dimensional, none of them showed character development, tho you can argue that Jules' showed some development, but overall, the characters from GoodFellas has more depth and personality, the degree of realism in the characters in GoodFellas are unmatched in the gangster genre.
Dialogue - Pulp Fiction (obviously)
I agree, PF has the slightly better dialogue.
Screen play/plot- pulp fiction (easily)
The plot in PF is muddled because how the narrative was done, like what I said in the other thread, PF feels disjointed and disconnected while GoodFellas was better at delivering the story and the overall plotting feels like we're watching a docu instead of a film, the grittiness and realism of the story is very spot on, we as the audience are pushed in this world of criminals and scoundrels and all of it feels real, none of it feels forced
Hell, even cast VS. cast, I can make a solid argument for pulp fiction.
QT's acting was cringey, tho the rest of the cast delivered great performances, but be honest, outside of Sam Jackson & John Travolta, IMO the rest were borderline forgettable, while the performances in GoodFellas are memorable even to the smallest of characters (ex. Jimmy Two Times).
Pulp fiction out shines goodfellas in everyway with the one exception of being a mob movie, but Pulp Fiction is that and sooooo much more.
I respectfully disagree, GoodFellas outshines PF (except in dialogue),
PF is a stylish crime comedy film while GoodFellas is a gritty realistic take on the gangster genre.

I can get your point, but for that, you had other major criminal figures, such as Jimmy Burke and Paul Vario rotting in jail, Tommy Desimone who was Tommy DeVito in the movie, was tortured to death for weeks, many say John Gotti stabbed him in the face with a knife, he broke his knees with a hammer, he pulled out his teeth and so on, while in the movie, he was whacked by the Gambino Family, of course, Henry Hill was a messy piece of shit, but he was a nonfactor, the others poisoned the American people with way more illegal narcotics than Henry did.
OT:
Goodfellas.
One of the most intense moments in the movie, which tells a lot.

Both are great.
Goodfellas is the better film (for me) but I watched Pulp Fiction more times...
