ERIK and LUNA's Pokemon Tournament of Champions: OP UPDATED

Erik and I have decided to host a Pokemon Tournament of Champions. We have tried to make the rules and regulations as simple and easy to follow as possible. To participate in this tournament all you need is an internet connection as we will be competing on Pokemon Showdown. Pokemon Showdown is easy to use and doesn't even require that you download any content. You don't even have to create an account if you don' want to, it's that easy.

Scenario:

In our tournament there will be Gym Leader Teams and Trainer teams.

There will be 8 Gym Leaders. Most of the Gym Leader spots are already filled, but feel free to let us know in this thread if you are interested in being a gym leader. (Note: Gym Leader’s may also have a standard trainer team.) Gym leader Teams must be mono-type just as they are in the games, and there cannot be 2 Gym leader teams with the same type. contact me if you wish to know what types are already taken.

The number of trainer teams is hypothetically infinite. As many people can be trainers as want to. Just let us know you’re interested by PMing me, or posting in this thread.

The Gym Leaders will give out badges of their creation to any trainers who can defeat them in a standard match (rules for matches will be expanded upon later.) Each trainer gets two chances to battle against each Gym Leader. If the trainer is victorious they receive a badge, if they lose they receive nothing.

Every trainer who receives all 8 badges is then entered in the Tournament of champions. Champions will all face each other once and whoever has the best record wins. Winner will be crowned champion and enshrined for eternity. Ties will be settled with an additional sudden death match. Trainers who do not make the tournament of champions will be ranked by the number of badges they earn and ties will be settled with a sudden death match.

Gym Leaders: (So far)

Rules:

- All matches are in Singles format

- Flat Battle Rule: Pokemon above Level 50 will be brought down to 50 the match, while those below 50 will stay as is.

- You enter the tournament with 6 Pokemon per team and 6 Pokemon participate in every battle. There is no switching Pokemon or changing your team once the tournament begins.

- Endless Battle Clause: Players cannot use any moveset on any Pokémon capable of intentionally causing an endless battle. Thus:

A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.

A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Pain Split.

A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Fling.

- Evasion Clause: Players cannot use the moves Double Team or Minimize.

- Moody Clause: Players cannot use a Pokémon with the Moody ability.

- OHKO Clause: Players cannot use the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold.

- Sleep Clause: Players cannot induce sleep to more than one Pokémon on the opposing team at the same time.

- Species Clause: Players cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on the same team.

- Swagger Clause: Players cannot use the move Swagger.

- Baton Pass Clause: Players cannot have more than one Pokémon with the move Baton Pass.

Gym Leaders are allowed to have ONE Pokemon from the banned list OR one item from the banned list (but not both).

Both Trainer’s and gym Leaders may use ONE Mega Evolution on their team.

New Rules:

1. No more using the PM all challenges must be posted in this thread.

2. It's the responsibility of the GYM LEADER to copy and paste all links for the battles into this thread. If no link to the battle is posted the trainer automatically wins.

What exactly is Smogon's Showdown?

Smogon (http://www.smogon.com/) itself is an outstanding Pokémon resource, with many tools and information that are overall just great.

Smogon Showdown is basically an online arena full of thousands of players who play there. (Introduction: http://www.smogon.com/sim/)

Team builders (the team builder is very detailed), chatrooms, accounts, modern gen graphics.

In regards to the battles, they're virtually identical to the official games.

Don't see why not. You could even post each and every battle held of the tournament onto this thread so others can see how various users competed with one another.

So I'm assuming you can just create the Pokemon team you battle with to be whatever you want with whatever IV's abilities, moves, EV;s etc?

Absolutely.

Moves, EV, IV, abilities, item, stats, level, shiny/non-shiny, happiness, etc.

@lunacyde: I suggest you make an account, play with the features, do a couple battles, and familiarize yourself.

Awesome....I already have spent almost a hundred hours breeding and training my Pokemon to be perfect, but I recognize not everyone has that kind of time or dedication to a game....hopefully this makes more people want to participate....are you interested

So if we make the tournament super easy by holding it on Pokemon Showdown who is in?

In a perfect world, it would have started 41 days ago lol. It fell dead when no one expressed interest.

Haven't played with Showdown before, but it doesn't sound all that complicated.

It's really easy. I even played it on my phone (you play it on an internet browser).

After you finish each battle you have the option of having a recorded version of the battle, in which you'll get a link which you can copy and paste, as I have done in post #23 of this thread.

@jaken7: We actually do need gym leaders too. But being a gym leader requires that you make two teams. One team to defend your gym, the other team to collect badges.

Team Defense one type and Team Offense multi-type?

Yes. Like the gyms in the game, a gym leader is mono typed. But they get access to high tier monotypes that are not available to the trainer teams.
