Poll: Does liking MCU/DCEU movies have anything to do with YOUR views on conservatism/liberalism? (30 votes)

I am politically apathetic or I do not care about MCU/DCEU movies 23%
I am aligned to conservatism and I prefer MCU movies to DCEU movies 33%
I am aligned to liberalism and I prefer MCU movies to DCEU movies 30%
I am aligned to conservatism and I prefer DCEU movies to MCU movies 7%
I am aligned to liberalism and I prefer DCEU movies to MCU movies 7%

This is related to political views AND MCU/DCEU movies.

For a quick recap:

As I saw lots of arguments online regarding the MCU vs DCEU movie debate, I have formed a wild conjecture regarding its demographics, but to keep it fair I'm not going to say anything about it until I see a substantial number of votes on this poll.

I just would like to hear about other people's views about the target audience of the MCU/DCEU movies and the contents of the movies (Not necessarily political themes or content in the film, but the type of material used in the movies that targets prospective fans). When people come together to discuss, perhaps they can give a better picture.

Discuss.

I guess I'm SLIGHTLY more leaning towards liberalism, but not leftism.

You know my opinion regarding MCU/DCEU.

This is not about whether I know your opinion regarding MCU/DCEU, its about discussion of the contents of MCU/DCEU films and whether do the contents or their target audience have some correlation with liberalism/conservatism.

Oh, and also vote (Unless you are apathetic towards either side political/movie franchises), so we get some good data to analyze.

@germanx: Yeah, I'm giving you data with my post. Other people can judge if it matters or not. Is it really that hard to understand?

@germanx:

This is kind of hard for me to pick one of the above options since neither franchise seems to have any kind of blatantly obvious social agenda.

I don't really care about politics, but right wing nutjobs are less annoying than left wing nutjobs. Right wing nutjobs know they're losers, and hide off in the middle of nowhere pretending to be dragons or wizards of the KKK. Left wing nutjobs are trying to convince me to take chicken out of my 4000 cal bulking diet.

MCU movies are more watchable than DCEU movies.

I was thinking about making a thread like this. I’ve noticed a lot of people I agree with strongly on politics but disagree on in the MCU/DCEU

I don't think there's any correlation between political leanings and fandom preference.

As far as if MCU/DECU targets one demographic or another, I'd say no. They wouldn't want to alienate either side. They want as many butts in theater seats as possible.

But I will say, I've always seen Batman and his hard line stance on crime as right wing.

No.

Neither really gets into major politics because they don't want to alienate a key portion of their audience, which would be inevitable if they did.

This right here is pretty much the only time either franchise has ever made a political statement.

Donald Trump and Steve Bannon hide off in the middle of nowhere pretending to be dragons or wizards of the KKK?

I wouldn't be that surprised though.

You should've included a yes and no answer to your question in the poll.

I personally don't think that liking MCU/DCEU movies has anything to do with anyone's views on conservatism/liberalism? It's storytelling, not politics.

And, for the record, I like both MCU and DCEU movies alike. I like the good ones and don't like the not so good ones, regardless of the label behind the movie.

Not at all.

I don't identify as either liberal or conservative because I find the idea of tribalism to be stupid and dangerous, and I view films through as non-partisan of a lens as I can.

In most tests I take I hit nearly dead center of the spectrum. Probably because I identify with a lot of views from both sides. I wouldn't say I identify as or with either side and I'm glad of it. That's why I didn't vote.

I am having a bit of problem seeing that as an overall picture.

For example, "gender/race equality" hasn't been seen much in the vast majority of MCU films with the exception of Black Panther.

I've seen some... I'd say neomarxists (since classic liberals aren't supposed to be like that) being buttpain over Snyder's interest in objectivism.

It makes sense though, their insecurity over anything that threatens their precious collectivism is actually superconsistent.

That said, BvS UC had the first gay kiss in CBMs, I think... I mean, it looked like a gay couple out there for a moment.

neomarxism and objectivism are not related to liberalism/conservatism (At least mainstream), just saying.

Think it goes both ways, and you are just referring to the minority. The racists and bigots in the alt-right movement (a few of which are dwelling on this forum and aren't exactly shy about their thoughts) are the counter to that extremism you mentioned.

Besides you should be referring to the wikipedia definition of it, which is mainstream and which is what the vast majority still adheres to.

@germanx:

As far as Western "progressive" liberalism is concerned, I wouldn't say that. Even if it's a minority, it the leading and the definitive one among the whole movement. About alt right, the problem is, to those neomarxists, anyone who's opposing their collectivist identity politics automatically becomes an affiliate of that branch. I don't even know what actual alt right really is at this point.

Anyway, I guess we should stop right there, I don't see it getting productive in here.

Yes i refuse to watch marvel movies until they are willing to portray their superheroes as realistic people. They need to change Tony Stark into a beautiful plus sized Mexican trans woman.
