Poll Does America try to be the world's police? (18 votes)

Yes 83%
No 22%

Title says it all. Vote yes or no and leave an opinion why.

Do you think America tries to be the 'world's police'? Ergo are they too imperialist? Any thoughts welcome. I just want to see opinion on this.

Yes. If we don't try to do anything to stop terrible things from happening than no one would.

Yes, America does try to be world police. I don't equate the to imperialism, but it is a close relative.

I say we stop knocking down and we stop propping up foreign nations. Let them stand and fall on their own.

Imperialism is slightly different to Capitalism, but if they didn't try to protect their global assets and allies (whether they acquisitioned them through war, democracy or plain old business), then they and the world they've helped to build would be buggered. So yes, but not because 'MURICAH!!! and not because the rest of the world isn't bothered as some particularly proud people are always quick to assume.

Yes, the U.S. does try to be the world police. If Superman never fought bad guys then he wouldn't save anyone and his morals would all be hot air. If the U.S. is going to stand up for equality then we have to be willing to take the fight to people like ISIS. With that said, the U.S. military would be crushed by Superman in a fight, so it's logical that he is more successful than we are.

@spitfirepanda: Should America also address Saudi Arabia's brutality? After all, they have beheaded more people then ISIS.

@frozen: Yes, we should. We should also address our own brutality, and in a perfect world we would. But sadly, while it should happen, it likely won't. The best we can hope for is that Saudi Arabia will come to tone down their policies in time through the influence of liberal muslims. The world is not perfect and it never will be, therefore lots of serious problems that should be addressed will continue to be ignored :(

China would bully its South-East Asian neighbors even more if America stood out of its way.

Yep. I wish it would stop too. America should pay more attention to its own corrupt and slowing dying country.

@frozen:

No, they don't police the world...

Because they are the law. Any law abiding nation who is interfering with their interests at the slightest sense is suddenly a human rights violator, and human rights violators who choose to sell stuff to the USA become law abiding world citizens.

Because he plays professional football and that makes him a REAL man. Gotta demonstrate that somehow.

I think we (America) should stop going over and butting into middle eastern countries. But I don't see it as imperialism.

But then again, European countries aren't doing as much about terrorist organizations as they could.

Initially I would say yes but then I remembered America really didn't give a sh*t about the Sri Lankan civil war. Pretty much we'll intervene when it involves corporate money.

The USA has been the World's Police.

They have done it well and they have done it poorly.

The reasons the USA gets involved have certainly been in it's own interests in part but that isn't the same thing as imperialism. The USA benefits (as does everyone else) from global security and stability. Kind of a no brainer.

Inexplicably the USA is derided for this role in peace time and the first one's folks look to in times of need...

It is something which is needed but I think a coalition is the way to go.

The UN is a clusterf**k of gargantuan proportions so it is not the answer.

Yes, but it is par for the course for a hegemon to try to maintain order in its system--hegemonic stability theory.

sections of America force American forces to do things that look like America wants to police the world, but ALL of America? NO. D!pshit people who complain about America all the time, without realizing that Texas culture is as different to Virginia culture which is different to Brooklyn vulture which is different to Maine culture all of which is different to California culture , don't get that and thus talk out of overly-well-used Euro-arses a lot about it, but that's just irony. As it's equally as irritating for a Barcelona Gay guy to hear an American talk about European Culture using straight Germanic Culture as a base line. When Saxon and Teutonic Culture has nothing to do with Iberian Culture, even though there is less distance between Saxony and Barcelona than there is between Boston and San Francisco.

So no, America does NOT try to be the world's police, but like some company's do bad things when a few bad executives get to run the companies as CEOs, sh1t happens.
