We see other black people call other black people ''n!gga'', like ''sup my n!gga''. Yet tension rises when a white person calls a black person it.

Personally, I don't mind if another black person calls me it. Like, I wouldn't mind if Static Shock called me by it. Yet if another user like Vance Astro called me it, I would mind it.

Do you?

But I know it's okay when one black person calls another black person the N word, yet when a white person says it to a black person, it's not cool. So I'm asking people that are black, do you mind when another black person calls you it?

Well if you have a problem with segregation then you should have a problem with Malcolm X, because he was a proponent of having segregated districts where blacks and whites would not associate.

I like both Malcolm X and MLK. I prefer MLK and I will say, Malcolm X is very controversial. But, I can agree with some of what he said, but you have to imagine the world he lived in and what he grew up with.

Nope, I try not to get offended when anybody says it though when somebody white uses the word in front of me it makes me uncomfortable. I can't really say too much about it other than " that makes me uncomfortable" because I sometimes use the word too. I wonder if that makes me a hypocrite but I cant help it.

What is wrong about Malcolm X?

Malcolm's middle years was pretty much a black supremist

His later years, he figured he was wrong and diverted away from racism pretty much following MLK's ideal over his previous ideals.

Malcolm X didn't really have a philosophy about white people, he had his own views about the way things should be though. Segregation, at least from what I've read and I've read a fair bit, was a last resort thing. As a matter of fact it was his father's idea to excommunicate back to Africa. He actually didn't have any views about the race as a whole he was taken in a by a white family when he was a kid, he looked up to his white teacher, and most of his more radical views on things ended up changing after time.

The whole use of the word is so odd, how it evolved from a horrible racial slur, to a term of endearment among the very people it was aimed at.

Yes. He was always changing his views because he kept on looking at the smaller picture. Race...

Right before the end of his life, he was in agreement with MLK.

MLK saw the bigger picture. Species...

He wanted the human species to live in harmony.

@Magethor: Actually the word itself as Americans use it is derived from the Spanish word negro which means black. Not as in black as a negative its just the Spanish word for the color black. Americans just changed it around and turned it into a racial slur.

WTF? How about we just agree to not use any racial slurs on Comic Vine?

http://www.comicvine.com/forums/off-topic/5/ask-static-shock/654831/?page=134

Page 134 and 135 is what I meant. Read what I said to Static, it's complicated.

But I know it's okay when one black person calls another black person the N word, yet when a white person says it to a black person, it's not cool. So I'm asking people that are black, do you mind when another black person calls you it?

How would you know? This is a comic forum I could lie and say I was a fourteen year old girl if I wanted.

Well I believe Static.

He is one person. He shouldn't be some generalization for his ethnicity....

I never said he was.

I don't understand what you are looking to achieve here? I could go ask female viners if the mind being called b!tch by men and not women or if it is more offensive to be called that by one or the other, but that doesn't change the fact that the word is used as a way of insulting and hurting others.

Yes it can be. But when other black people call other black people the ''n1gga'', it's ok. People wonder why though. It's really interesting.

Because it means King in native, but in classical period America it pretty much meant slave.

Wait, what? I though it was latin for black?

It is.... But I'm talking about the usage of the slur itself....

When a white person uses it to a black person, the (u.s.a) black person, takes it as slave because that how they used it back then.

Joshmightbe explains it well.

@Magethor: Actually the word itself as Americans use it is derived from the Spanish word negro which means black. Not as in black as a negative its just the Spanish word for the color black. Americans just changed it around and turned it into a racial slur.

@Magethor: He doesn't know what he's talking about, either. The word of the day is ninja and how it affects other ninjas.

Agreed. The guy is living in 1940 or something, but instead of following Martin Luther King jr's philosophy of harmony, he's going with Malcolm X philosophy about white people.

Yes. He was always changing his views because he kept on looking at the smaller picture. Race...

Right before the end of his life, he was in agreement with MLK.

MLK saw the bigger picture. Species...

He wanted the human species to live in harmony.

I think what Malcolm was looking at was more of what his race had to go through and what we had to do to put an end. There's nothing small about that. Freedom was their main goal, the two of them could always agree on that. It's not like he changed from by any means to nonviolence and then back to by any means, he didn't really care how they got there as long as they did. In the end that's the picture the two of them had been looking at all along.

I feel alittle weird when anyone calls me by the N word. I never got us to it, maybe because I don't like curse words or because I didn't grow up hearing them. d-_-b

Perhaps, but remember after he's joined islam, he noticed that he had 'brothers' of all races and that included white people. I can understand how he felt about his people, and as big as it may seem, was still much smaller than viewing the overall bigger picture. If all races can harmonize as one single species. They wouldn't have the problem of slavery or hate from the get go.
