What do you guys think? Is Disney charging their own service for Star Wars, Marvel Movies, and Diseny Toons really a option for them? Is people going to pay for Netflix, Hulu, and Disney or say screw Disney?

@sirfizzwhizz: Then I'd say it depends on what they put on that platform. Say, exclusive Star Wars or MCU related shows would be something I think people would be willing to pay more for.

If they charge a reasonable price (hopefully) Then I don't think it will hurt them.

Hey did you know Jaden Smith has an anime on netflix?

I mean I guess marvel movies are popular enough. Star Wars certainly is. They could throw some disney classics into the mix like lion king and gargoyles. And if they get another hit like frozen was they could put that there. Kids shows would probably go there so it can work for families. I don't think it will be as big as netflix but it doesn't have to be since there cutting netflix out of the picture.

Than again the reason people buy netflix rather than buy DVD'S is because its convenient and there is a lot of variety.

As long as we still have Daredevil and Punisher Netflix, I'm good. Also, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

For consumers, no but for Disney, yes. Disney one of the few content creators that has a large enough catalogue, strong enough name, and some of the most popular franchises spanning decades. Their fan base is devoted, and parents look to them safe programming to entertain (and shut up) their kids. Disney can, if done right, make bank on this. If they were to include most if their back catalogue, all current programming running on The Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Jr they could easily charge $10.00+ monthly, if they include Marvel (Netflix originals aside) and Star Wars, I'd predict $16.00+ monthly.

If this is how I can finally watch their 90's animated series for Hercules (so much better than the movie) then I'm all for it. Not to mention the catalogue of classic shorts they could feature.

I think a Disney streaming service would be totally worth it unless it's essentially just the Disney Channel stuff.

I write that word uncensored constantly on this site and seen many others do the same, I've never once been warned or seen anyone get warned. This serious?

If Disney carries all their subsidiaries with them then yes it is a great idea for them.

Disney owns:

Disney studios

Disney animation

Lucasfilm, which is more than just Star Wars, it includes things like Indiana Jones and others.

Pixar

Marvel Studios

Buena Vista

Hollywood Pictures

Miramax Films: Lots of good 80's and 90's movies there

Studio Ghibli: North American distributer for the company so iffy on if they have rights to stream or not

Touchstone Pictures, which has many dozens of movie titles under their banner including some big names

ABC Network, so technically they could put the whole ABC television catalogue on there

Freeform network

ESPN: not really a TON they can do with that on a streaming service because I am sure they have contracts with other cable companies and distributers.

A&E network

Lifetime Network: Tons of movies there that mom's would love

History Network

If they took all that and made their own streaming company, I would leave netflix and get Disney streaming or whatever they plan to call it.

There will be people who will pay for it, but I don't know if it is a good idea for Disney.

Yeah. I'm not paying for another streaming service just for Disney related programming.

You can take MCU stuff too. I don't care.

Oh for Gods sake.

I already pay for Netflix, Now TV and quite recently Amazon. If Disney pull all their content and start charging for their own site, I'll HAVE to get it.

Do Disney not care if I become homeless because of frivolous overspending?!

Disney will need content for their new Netflix equivalent, they own the copyrights to the Marvel characters and will not let the competition keep them beyond however long the agreement they've got going now is contracted for.
