Poll Conor Mcgregor vs Anthony Joshua (21 votes)

Conor McGregor 24%
Anthony Joshua 76%

Street fight, both wearing hand wraps. Welterweight mma vs Heavyweight Boxer. Can Joshua's giant height, reach and weight advantages paired with his amazing hands make up for his lack of training in elbows, kicks, knees and takedowns?

This isn't a fair fight.

Anthony Mauls Conor.

If it was Cain Velzquez or Stipe Miocic they would maul Anthony.

@simon_the_digger: don't be daft.

OT: Joshua demolishes him. This isn't a comic book. That weight/reach/size advantage is massive.

@simon_the_digger:

Stipe would body Joshua in a real fight.

Joshua puts Stipe to sleep if he catches him clean with one punch. He's slow and his only hope would be to take down Joshua. If he tries to stand and trade with Joshua he gets KTFO.

@simon_the_digger: Stipe just fought the hardest hitting person ever recorded and got hit....

Joshua begs for his life the moment Stipe slams him on his head.

Jousha has 1 edge and that's it.

Stipe is the better striker ( striking isn't just boxing )

Stipe is the better athlete

Stipe is light years ahead in BJJ and Wrestling.

I would've thought there'd be arguments for Conor too, I guess all the stigma about him is gone or at least halted atm now that the Mayweather fight is over. It's just that Joshua has never had to deal with a leg kick or a body kick or a takedown. And while Joshua could probably keep on his feet from a double leg or a single leg with his sheer strength. Surely Conor's (brown i think?) belt in bjj would atleast help him keep up in any clinching/ground scenario?

There are weight divisions for a reason, Joshua hits a lot harder and has 43kg over Connor.

@twoaboveall:

Jousha is over 100 lbs heaver, Conor can't take him down.

and as soon as Conor goes for the leg kick, Joshua can force a straight right into his head, the leg kick wont do much due to the size difference.

And? Joshua has no take down defense whatsoever. Stipe could just mount him and ride him like a pony.

Stand up wouldn't be easy for Anthony either... Stand up is way more than just striking, you know you can actually kick and grapple while standing up.

Conor isn't even a legitimate welterweight LUL. He's a lightweight. It's actually painful that I even have to say that Conor gets God tier curbstomped. Why do people make these threads.

Ehhh Joshua has no Takedown Defence or Wrestling at all

McGregor is a BJJ Brown Belt, could probably take him down and make AJ tap

BJJ on top tier MMA level is renowned for allowing smaller opponents to take those much bigger than them to the ground so Connor certainly has a chance here but a chance isn’t optimistic.

The problem is Joshua only needs one hit to end this and his reach would keep Connor at bay so I’d have to say AJ should stomp.

Dont need to wrestle to stop even the most basic takedown. AJ has like 8 inches and 100 pounds on Conor. Conor is going to dive for his legs and AJ slams him through the floor

@kgb725: Nah man, strength can help, but Joshua has never grappled before in his life. He doesn't know how to apply all his strength effectively, that's the big difference here. UFC 1 proved a smaller dude who knows how to grapple can submit a bigger dude who knows absolutely nothing about grappling.

You're forgetting what actually happened in those fights. It took royce multiple chances and the cage to take his opponents down. He even failed plenty takedown attempts and got punched in the face for it which Conor cant afford to take. Not to mention the size difference wasnt that big

@kgb725: Nah in UFC 1 Royce took down most fighters easily.

With his first fight against Art Jimmerson just one double leg and he smothered him on top. Didn't even submit him, Jimmerson tapped from frustration.

He got sprawled on by Ken Shamrock, the difference is that Shamrock has experience in other proto-MMA organisations like Pancrase.

He did have trouble in the Gordeau fight though, Gordeau gave Royce issues by grabbing him by his Gi and pulling him up off his legs until Royce got the leg trip from the clinch.

You're right about the size difference though. They were all relatively similar in size making this harder for Conor. Actually I concede that UFC 1 is not a good example for this though.

I still think that McGregor has a chance of winning against Joshua though despite the size difference.

Too much size difference. I think Joshua takes it by a large margin.

How high does Conor have to reach to even hope to hit him? And then closing the gap just to be towered over by an elite fighter that could probably concuss you in a single strike.

I think a guy with a boxing glove on his hand wouldnt be the best grappler. And even then he still used his size and the cage to try and take people down to various success

Yes he has a chance but aj is so much stronger he could power through most submission attempts and just slam him

@kgb725: Yeah true, but there's certain submissions that AJ can't just burst out of. Leg submissions and chokes are known as a good equaliser when it comes to strength disadvantages in grappling.

I will say that it's difficult for Conor to get to those areas in the first place. If he was a better grappler I'd give him the edge but yeah, you've got me convinced AJ has the advantage here.
