I always do lol It's about being appropriate.
Can a white guy make jokes about black people?
I don't really mind as I am mixed so I hardly ever care when my white friends say something "offensive about race. In fact I hardly ever care when they say N*gga. (I censor it as I'm not sure if it's acceptable on this website) I'm not saying okay all the time...
@waezi2: I was actually just messing with ya brother man. Race has become so sensitive in America it's hard to call anyone anything without someone being offended. I'm of German decent and if I went to Germany and called myself "German -American" I'd get my little ass beat. Most black people in American have never been to and will never go to Africa so the term African -American is asinine. Also, we are not allowed to call anyone foriegners over here because apparently that makes regular Americans feel bad about themselves. I know everything I've said here is absurd but it's all true. The social system here is effed in the a.
@superstay: There is this Black-History-related song called "Strange Fruit." As you probably already know, black people used to hung from trees for various reasons (because they were black). The song refers to these dead black peoples' bodies as "strange fruit." Now do you get how unfunny the joke is?
Yeah, I looked up the song. I found the Billie Holiday version. And...I'm actually kind of speechless...I have nothing to say.....
do.ob
Still one of the funniest things ever, this and the racial draft. It all comes down to how your comedy is executed.
@iaconpoint: It's better than having a nation of rude pricks, like mine. Our situation is kind of the opposite. We are judgemental as hell when it comes to race. Heard of islamophobia?
All jokes are fair play in the context of comedy. It is all about context regarding a joke and how to apply it and make it work.
I find it depends on the people I'm telling it to. I can actually say racist things in front of an African kid in my class and am okay to say them for a laugh because I know they don't have a problem with it.
Comedy should have no boundaries so yes.
Exactly!
@waezi2: As a black man, I have no problem with this sort of thing, Daniel Tosh does it and he is hilarious, even when the jokes sting. Like the first post said, if it's funny you will walk away with a new fan base, if the joke sucks or is too offensive, you may need security.
comedians usually get away with it because its there career. now if it was some everyday person than yes thats not going to end well at all. as a white guy myself youd be suprised at how many white jokes i make wich make people go uh wtf
