The area around the apartment of mass movie theater shooting suspect James Holmes in suburban Denver was evacuated Friday and police were trying to determine how to disarm booby traps made of what Aurora police said appeared to be "very sophisticated" explosives or flammable materials.

He was going for a doctorate in Neuroscience.

What's crazy to me is that he didn't resist arrest. He had at least two guns on him and was in the parking lot when he was cornered by police. He didn't shoot them, he didn't shoot himself, he didn't attempt to get away. He didn't even resist.
That's what I've been thinking about.
@Mercy_: No, I think you're right. Obviously he has a reason for his actions, considering the events that led up to that point. I just don't know.

He has to have a reason for targeting The Dark Knight Rises. If he fired at the cops, they would fire back. He probably has a message.

Most criminals are sane. I honestly doubt he has any kind of mental illness. He obviously has issues and is a f##ked up scum bag, but as for clinically insane? I doubt it. The idea of most mass murderers and serial killers being insane is entirely false. Disturbed, cruel, sadistic? Yes. Insane? Not often.

That as well. Something about it strikes me as very odd.

No, your not something's off

Of course he does. Maybe a delusion of self-importance coupled with not being recognized...

Maybe he wants to go to Jail, he knew that he'd get a longer stay a more image by making such a public display...The neuroscience worries me as well, I pray that this carnage is over but I don't believe he's through ;/

Exactly there is a big different than being a psychopath and clinically insane. In fact they are very nearly opposites.

He had a future planned, that means he had a reason for the shooting. I think it could have something to do with Rush Limbaugh.
Wait what does Rush have to do with it?

I'd prefer not to. Makes you really think about who are the people on the fringe of your life (Doctors, dentists, cashiers, etc)

Simply put, he thinks Mitt Romney's Batman and Bane is some conspiracy to ruin his campaign. College/university students tend to be pretty vulnerable and gullible when it comes to politics.

Yes and no. Psychopaths are usually more intelligent and mentally stable, though.

To be legally considered insane a person must either not be capable of differentiating between right and wrong, completely unaware of the consequences of their actions, or so delusional that they don't even realize what they are actually doing.
Psychopath's are completely in control of their faculties, in fact they tend to be overly analytical cold, and calculating. They know exactly what they are doing and that it is wrong, but they don't care and don't feel any empathy for others.

Very true, the mentally ill are usually highly non violent as well. Psychopaths are not non violent. Also psychopath is kind of a broad term. Given the information we have so far I'd say he may have a anti social personality disorder. That isn't a mental illness either it's more a psychological state of mind or disorder which is different seeing as most metal illnesses are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Is this the maniac he thinks he's Bane that attacked the Dark Knight Rises premiere or whatever? Or a different maniac?

Mentally ill people can also be very violent, although, it's usually because they're frightened. It's more likely he's psychopathic. It's why he didn't kill himself or risk death by firing on the police. As I said before, he probably has a reason and a message. I really hope they televise an interview with him.

Technically speaking Insanity covers someone who is a psychopath. Psychopathy is simply a more specific type of insanity. A Psychopath is indeed insane. But an insane person isn't necessarily a psychopath.

We're referring to people who are mentally unstable. Unstable to a point where they can't be a part of the public.
@Project_Worm: Insanity is a very broad term though. Legally speaking it means someone who doesn't know right from wrong, clinically speaking it's not actually used. But when someone says insane most peoples minds go to something like dissociative identity disorder, schizophrenia, bi-polar and stuff like that. If that's not the type of people you meant I apologize for my misconception.
I'm guessing he was looking forward to hearing about the devastating affects that his traps would have on the police. What's crazy to me is that he didn't resist arrest. Or he had something he was hiding and was hoping the traps would get rid of them.
