Poll Better Film: 1917 or Parasite? (27 votes)

1917 37%
Parasite 52%

The Oscars went with Parasite. The Baftas and the Golden Globes went with 1917.

Which do you prefer and why?

Personally, I think the Baftas and the Golden Globes made the right call on this one. Parasite was great, but 1917 was an experience.

Prefer Parasite, can't deny that 1917 was well made though.

I think the Oscars got it right for once. I thought 1917 was excellent. It was perfectly crafted, if a little shallow, but it takes place over the course of a few hours, so I can't knock it too much for that. The story doesn't do anything new for War movies yet the movie is innovative in every other way.

Parasite was just slightly better for me. The story, the dialogue, the themes. It hits so many notes, dramatic, comedic, thrilling and it does it organically. I truly would have not had a problem with either winning. They're both that strong.

Yeah, I was kinda having the same thoughts about 1917 but its cinematography is really good.

Parasite without much issue.

I'm not really seeing how 1917 was innovative? It was a very good use of long takes, but making long takes look like a single shot has been done since at least the 50's.

@quinlan58: Perhaps innovative is the wrong term. It had never been done on that scale to my recollection so it's a technical achievement.

I would say a tie for this one. 1917 and Parasite had the music, plot, and story.

1917's story is so realistic, that it becomes bland and kinda uninteresting, BUT they did the absolute best with the script they got. That's all I gotta say.

Parasite kinda easily. Left seeing 1917 thinking it was a good war film. Left Parasite thinking it was one of the best films I ever watched.

1917 is an excellent film, but Parasite was really something else. I honestly think it could go down as one of the goat.
