At what movie did The Fast and The Furious begin to fall off?

Tbh the only one I truly disliked was the Fate of the Furious & Tokyo Drift

Hard to say, explain define "Fall off". They got much more crazy from 5 onward.

The best movie is hands down the first one. However Fast and Furious 6 and 8 are competitors and amongst my top 3 and they are more recent, so we can't say they got progressively worse. Tokyo Drift is absolutely brilliant as it's own thing, especially with it's big twist and connection to 6.

The two worst films in the series is a tie between 2 Fast 2 Furious (which is a bit of a cult hit that was just good ole stupid fun) and Fast and the Furious (the 4th film is the worst for me personally).

Why are you implying it has fallen off?

As a serious franchise, two wasn't great, yet three is a bit rougher even as it's own pseudo spin off. So that one. But as a over the top cartoonish exercise in trying to be the most blockbustery blockbluster that ever blockbustered, it's never missed a beat.

@kgb725: I'm not really talking terms of tone, sorry if I wasn't clear. I mean as the series went on the the bar of spectacle was raised, with more action, drama and overall scope of what they are doing. It's got to a level where I can't take it as serious. Not to say the first couple aren't that way, but the squeals always got crazier and I think when F&F found it's groove IMO.

I like five more than two to four.

I´m not a fan , but I´m pretty sure it didn´t "fall off". Unless you count "fall off" as the change of style over the years.

I wouldn't say "fell off". 1 was good, 2 was decent, 3 was TRASH, 4 picked it back up, 5 is probably the best to date, 6-8 were all good, Hobbs and Shaw will probably be about as good as Fate...

They've gotten better.

Not sure if it has fallen off since they have had back to back billion dollar movies, but the best ones by far have been the first one and the Brazil one.

It went from a fairly grounded crime thriller with drag racing as the backdrop, to a mindless string of explosions and unstoppable characters.

The "big twist/connection" to the 6th movie, was a last minute retcon, that creates all sorts of continuity issues, and then got completely forgotten/ignored the moment they decided to make Deckard into a hero.
