Poll Affirmative Action - Keep it or abolish it? (33 votes)

Sounds wack tbh.
Instead we should remove the structures that obstruct people of color today (mass incarceration, War on Drugs, poor education system, poor funding and infastructure).
Abolish it.
Work harder to put more effort and funding into the education system. Make more youth groups, extra circulars, clubs, etc. That way you wont need stuff like that.
There might have been a need for it at one point and there might be a need for it someday. Not so much now.
Certain things should have a time limit. Then revisit the idea at the end to see if it should be renewed. If not renewed revisit it at a set time to revisit the idea to see if it should be reinstated.\
Sadly though I think that would still fall to the same problems that all thing do. This side always votes for this. THat side always votes for that.
Edit: Though I'm surprised that some things have switched sides. Who would have seen the right to be fighting for things like free speech and the left fighting against it?
Abolish it.

Affirmative action while well intentioned racism is still racism. All forms of racism must go. In California, a week and a half ago, the Democrats moved to remove the phrase "the State shall not discriminate" so they can implement an affirmative action policy that will discriminate against Asian students for being Asian in college admissions.
According to the New York post "A Harvard University dean testified that the school has different SAT score standards for prospective students based on factors such as race and sex ...
He said Harvard sends recruitment letters to African-American, Native American and Hispanic high schoolers with mid-range SAT scores, around 1100 on math and verbal combined out of a possible 1600, CNN reported. Asian-Americans only receive a recruitment letter if they score at least 250 points higher — 1350 for women, and 1380 for men."
No one should be penalized for their ethnicity. This is wrong and immoral. Penalizing an Asian student because she is Asian, doesn't add a single SAT point to a Black student's score. This policy is misguided and puts the focus on the wrong thing. Rather than penalizing an Asian student the goal should be to help raise the SAT score of the Black student and that must begin before college. Only 17 percent of African American students are on grade level by their senior year of high school. Improving elementary, middle and high school education is key to raising minority achievement.
Another aspect of this misguided policy is that it has negative impacts on the recipients of reverse discrimination programs. Because Black students are accepted at universities that they are not prepared for the academic rigor, most will either drop out or switch to a less demanding, and lower paying, major. Setting someone up for failure is not beneficial.
@just_sayin: Actually agree with your overall point. The issue has to be addressed long before the point of college admissions.
Here's an idea. Maybe teach people what it actually is and not perpetuate the idea it's a quota system.
Furthermore AA can get people in but it doesnt allow them to pass their classes or get the degree they want.

Just out of curiosity why do you think Asians are getting punished?
It's not because of Affirmative Action. It's because Asians are outperforming the white people who colleges and universities want to keep as their majority. There is no logical reason for Asians to be hurt otherwise. Any student who outpreforms shouldn't be forced to compete with underperforming students of any race, religion or creed.
Colleges and universities hurt Asians to remind them that they are minorities and no matter the merit won't be allowed to compete at white academic standards.
Furthermore what is wrong with switching Universities? You know why most people switch out of big name universities? It's not because the work is harder, it's because of the financial burdens that those schools place on people. Loans don't solve everything.
Abolish it.
@hypnos0929: So Affirmative Action is secretly racist?
Affirmative Action is equivalent to using a band-aid to fix a gaping wound. A lot of underlying issues still remain with regards to inequality that were never addressed. AA will have the effect of helping out some people, but not resolving any problems by itself. However, since it's the only remedy being offered, even a band-aid is preferable to nothing at all.
@hypnos0929: So Affirmative Action is secretly racist?
Affirmative Action is being used by racists as a cover to repeal it. It has never been a quota system and it doesn't allow anyone to pass even a single class.
Here's an interesting fact: "The primary beneficiaries of affirmative action have been Euro-American women," wrote Columbia University law professor Kimberlé Crenshaw for the University of Michigan Law Review in 2006.
You see if Colleges and Universities make it look like "black people" are making it worse for everyone else they get people who literally haven't read a bill in their entire lives on their side. Affirmative Action literally forces Colleges to look at applications from schools and even districts which they would never look at.
