Today, John Sato, a 95 year old World War 2 veteran in New Zealand, traveled 12 miles on 4 buses in order to attend a memorial service for the people who died in the Christcurch mosque shooting, and then took part in an anti-racism march.
"I think it is such a tragedy, and yet…it has brought people together. It doesn't matter what their race or anything. People, they suddenly realize we're all one. We care for each other," he told Radio New Zealand.
"Policeman took me all the way home, waited down there until he saw me getting up the stairs. The tragedy in Christchurch, look at what it brought out in people. It shows the best of humanity," he told Radio New Zealand.
In a world where the bad guys seem to get all the attention, let's give the spotlight to a hero for a change.
