'90s vs 2000s: Which decade had better movies?
2000s wins for me.
- Explosion of super hero films with the start of the MCU, start of Fox X-Men, start of the Dark Knight trilogy, start of DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the Incredibles.
- Explosion of zombie films including Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil and Shaun of the Dead.
- Two of my favorite fantasy settings; The Lord of the Rings trilogy and 300.
- Two of my favorite anime movies; Spirited Away and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.
- Some good laughs from Ice Age, Shrek, Team America and Zoolander.
- Some of my favorite non-English films; District 9, Kung-fu Shuffle, Ong Bak, Old Boy, Pan's Labyrinth and Shaolin Soccer.
1990s was good too, but I prefer certain 2000s trends over 1990s trends. Plus a lot of the 1990s best films were skewed towards drama and I'm not that into drama.
- Explosion of sci-fi action with the start of the Matrix trilogy, start of Jurassic Park and start of Starship Troopers.
- Some of the only English language dramas I could enjoy; Boyz n the Hood, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption and Trainspotting
- Some good laughs; Clerks, Dumb and Dumber, Mallrats, Mystery men, Toy Story and Trumen show.
- Excellent anime movies in the form of; Battle Angel, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh and Ninja Scroll.
- Great Kung Fu flicks including the Once Upon a Time in China series.

Depends on the genre. The 90's gave us Weekend at Bernie's 2 & Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. Instant classics! The 2000's gave us M. Night Shyamalan movies. Pure gold!
Obviously the more we get into the future the better movies get. (Bigger budget, more technology, more interest to add new characters)
All that razzamatazz counts for little if the plot sucks. Avatar sure looked cool & it grossed a lot but it had a pretty dull plot & some pretentious political message & at least imo is one of the worst movies of all time.
Hell I'd take 1988's Alien Nation over the 2009 rip-off District 9 any day.
Wanna talk about John Carter?
@the_thereminist: for comicbook movies.
@the_thereminist: for comicbook movies.
Ah I see. My only issue with comic book based films is when they deviate from the source material but since MCU & DCEU are literally a different universes from they're comic counterparts I guess it's not really a big deal.
Thor & Cap's solo films sucked save for Ragnarok but that was only because Hulk was in it but the Iron Man & Avengers films were pretty bad ass.
Actually, I think the 90s is more of the best decade for tv series; the 90s was a golden age of sci-fi in terms of tv series; the sci-fi tv series that were canceled would probably sustain themselves very well if they were to be brought back in the 2020s, as the 2010s are now pretty much over; this certainly includes animated and children's tv series. So, with that correction, I can't really say a best decade for movies but the 80s were certainly a decade to be respected; it was a good decade for animated and children's tv series, as well; if limited to animated and children's tv series, the 80s do edge out the 90s.
@the_thereminist: comic-book movie.

Oh! I should've deduced that, now I feel stupid.
90’s
Friday, Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Toy Story, Terminator 2, Goodfellas, Fight Club, Lion King, Seven, Shawshank Redemption, Home Alone, Rush Hour, The Mask.
Yeah the 90’s might be the best decade for movies.
What? No shout out to Weekend at Bernie's 2 & Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot?
In the defense of '05 it gave us Son of the Mask. A far superior film to The Mask.
@the_thereminist: too many films to list in the 90’s man but yeah shoutout to those two as well.
I hated Son of Mask.
As well as literally everyone, but it was pretty great for it's cheese factor. The worst the better.
I slightly prefer 90s movies because it had Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, Malcolm X, Saving Private Ryan, The Crow (my fav CBM) and Terminator 2, but 2000s was great also because it had the Spider-Man trilogy, the Sixth Sense, King Kong (2005), Downfall, Hurt Locker (2008), and Avatar.
