@outside_85: Even before the firearm restriction, gun death was not a large issue here. Its other factors besides the availability of guns that cause these shootings. Canada has school shootings too, just proportionally less because of population. Hilariously, there are MORE firearms in Canada then there was 30 years ago

Banning or regulating guns to a certain degree is stupid. Even what we have in Canada is arguably too much

Proportionally less than you likely would if your gun laws were as lax as those of your southern neighbor. And to go with the increase of weapons is the amount of people.

Really? So because it's stupid to you it shouldn't be done?

It's terrible what happened at that South Florida school. These shootings have to stop. It's tragic to the victims and their families. I send my condolences to those affected by this tragic school shooting. May the victims rest in peace!

Australia's last mass shooting occurred in 1996.

Can you guess when they banned guns?

Gun related mass murder/hostage taking in Australia:

Monash University Shooting - 2002 - 2 dead 5 injured

Hectorville Siege - 2011 - 3 dead 3 injured

Hunts Family Murder - 2014 - 5 dead including suspect

Sydney Siege - 2014 - 3 dead including suspect (1 was killed accidentally)

You really want to compare?

Australia

  • Monash University Shooting - 2002 - 2 dead 5 injured
  • Hectorville Siege - 2011 - 3 dead 3 injured
  • Hunts Family Murder - 2014 - 5 dead including suspect
  • Sydney Siege - 2014 - 3 dead including suspect (1 was killed accidentally)

Total time elapsed: 12 years.

  • Total amount of deaths: 13
  • Total amount of injuries: 12
  • Total amount of casualties: 25.

United States Of America:

  • Las Vegas Shooting - 2017 - 59 dead, 422 injuries.
  • Orlando Nightclub Shooting - 2016 - 50 dead, 58 inuries
  • Sutherland Springs Church Shooting - 2017 - 27 dead, 20 injuries

Total duration: 2 years

  • Total amount of deaths: 136
  • Total amount of injuries: 500
  • Total amount of casualties: 636

Now tell me, why won't America ban guns?

Look at El Salvador. More applicable to the U.S. since it is on the same continent and not landlocked by water. Gun Control doesn't work there. In fact, most places liberals mentions like Japan, Australia, Great Britain, Iceland, etc... are all Islands.. They don't have a smuggling problem like America does.

  • Canada

  • Belgium
  • Czech Republic
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Slovakia
  • Denmark
  • Sweden
  • Italy
  • Germany

Add more information so I can understand the point you are trying to make. If it is about AR15 rifles. More people are killed from fist (unarmed) people than from all rifle types combined in the U.S. in 2016. People's fist kill more people than rifles....

I'm pretty sure I can't kill 60+ people in the span of 10 minutes with my fists.

Britain's worst ever bombing was the 7/7 bombing:

7/7 Bombing:

  • 782 Injuries

Las Vegas Shooting:

  • 59 dead (Including the LONE gunman)

I meant to an unreasonable degree. They do need regulation. But irregardless I can play statistics too you know

102 people die to motor vehicles every day in the us.

32,999 are killed in crashes and 2,239,000 are injured

Over 2,000 children under 16 die every year from motor vehicle related accidents.

A vehicle is to a retarded degree more lethal than an assault rifle. Just look at the truck attacks in Europe. The case for banning cars is better than the case for banning guns. So why don't we ban or heavily restrict those law abiding citizens who wish to buy a car or truck? Well the answer is easy

A car is a tool. A gun is a tool. Its not about making access to the tool impossible, that would be asinine, as the tool has an important purpose. Its about keeping the dangerous tools out of the hands of mentally ill or fanatical extremists. This is where the US fails. None of the regulations Canada had would've stopped this shooting, nor the regulations in Ireland (as thats the only other one I am qualified to speak on).

Not really, they just want to implement mandatory mental health checks...Oh wait....they already did....then Trump got rid of them...

102 people die to motor vehicles every day in the us.

Good to see you're taking outdated sources from Wikipedia.

32,999 are killed in crashes and 2,239,000 are injured

Highly doubtful, considering from 1899-2013 there have only been 3,613,732 fatalities.

Over 2,000 children under 16 die every year from motor vehicle related accidents.

and over 2,500+ children die each year from guns...

A vehicle is to a retarded degree more lethal than an assault rifle.

No the hell it isn't.

Just look at the truck attacks in Europe.

Okay...Lets have a look at the truck attacks...

Barcelona, 2017:

  • Dead: 13
  • Injured: 50

Paris, 2017:

  • Dead: 0
  • Injured: 5

Paris, 2017:

  • Dead: 1
  • Injured: 0

London, 2017:

  • Dead: 1
  • Injured: 0

London, 2017:

  • Dead: 8
  • Injured: 48

Stockholm, 2017:

  • Dead: 5
  • Injured: 14

London, 2017:

  • Dead: 5
  • Injured: 49

Berlin, 2016:

  • Dead: 11
  • Injured: 56

Nice, 2016:

  • Dead: 87
  • Injured: 458

Total:

  • Dead: 126
  • Injured: 680

Lets have a look at America's most recent mass shootings...

Stoneman Douglas School Shooting, 2018:

  • Dead: 17
  • Injured: 14

Las Vegas Shooting, 2017:

  • Dead: 59
  • Injured: 851

Sutherland Springs Shooting, 2017:

  • Dead: 27
  • Injured: 20

Orlando Nightclub Shooting, 2016:

  • Dead: 50
  • Injured: 58

Total:

Dead: 153

Injured: 943

The case for banning cars is better than the case for banning guns.

No the hell it isn't. Give me one good reason why we, CIVILIANS need semi-automatic rifles-----actually scratch that, give me one good reason why we need weapons at all.

A gun is a tool.

No it isn't, it's literally designed to kill people. That is the whole point of its being.

Its not about making access to the tool impossible

Yes the hell it is,. Give me one good reason why we, CIVILIANS need semi-automatic rifles-----actually scratch that, give me one good reason why we need weapons at all.

Its about keeping the dangerous tools out of the hands of mentally ill or fanatical extremists.

Right, because any normal, sane person would own an instrument of death...

This is where the US fails.

The US fails in a whole lotta places.

None of the regulations Canada had would've stopped this shooting

Yes....It really would have, go and take a loot at the regulations in Canada, and then go and take a look at the weapon aisle in Walmart.

nor the regulations in Ireland

Ireland:

Eligibility:

Not everyone is eligible to apply for a firearms certificate; those not eligible to apply are set out in Section 8 of the Firearms Act and include:

  • Anyone under 16 years of age
  • anyone of "unsound mind" or "intemperate habits"
  • anyone not resident in Ireland for six months before the application
  • anyone convicted of certain specified offences

America:

Eligible persons

The following persons are eligible to possess and own firearms within the United States, though further restrictions apply:

  • US citizens
  • permanent resident aliens

Yeah definitely pal, America is definitely leading by example when it comes to Gun Control.....

I would actually tag @majinblackheart to explain this last one to you though. He carries and has a family, so I feel as if he can offer up an explanation for somebody who doesn't get it

Lastly, don't talk about what you don't know.

Yes....It really would have, go and take a loot at the regulations in Canada, and then go and take a look at the weapon aisle in Walmart.

Don't pretend you understand my country more than me when I have both a firearms licence and a prohibited firearms licence. Any nutty person with the stuff I have couldve done the exact same thing as me. Semi Automatic firearms are for sale where I live, not in Walmart but three blocks away.

France, a country with extremely strict gun laws has had a mass shooting far worse than any in America. 130 people died and 413 people injured (typo). Gun control didn't stop that....

Good for him, I'm fairly certain that every single person on Earth has a family, does that mean they all carry weapons?

Lastly, don't talk about what you don't know.

Hahahahahaha. Solid argument there pal.

Don't pretend you understand my country more than me when I have both a firearms licence and a prohibited firearms licence.

Really, you know you're country? Tell me in detail how you're country works.

Any nutty person with the stuff I have could've done the exact same thing as me.

You mean absolutely anybody, anywhere, at any time whatsoever can do a mass shooting, if they had access to a weapon.

Semi Automatic firearms are for sale where I live, not in Walmart but three blocks away.

That's an incredibly in-depth description.

P.S. I'm glad you decided to address the fact that America's 4 most recent school shootings are deadlier than all of the "truck rampages" across Europe combined.

@majinblackheart: Why exactly people feel the need to carry a firearm, why people think its necessary

Double edged sword. I carry because so many others have them and the world is a crazy place. And it's even crazier in Florida.

I believe it's or right to own forearms but I'm not against making it a little harder to get high capacity rifles.

Here's the best example for both sides of the argument. I also noticed it's not mentioned in any of the infographics, memes and examples showing how great gun control is in other countries. In 2011, there was a mass shooting in Norway. In the end, 69 were dead and over 100 injured. This is a country with strict gun laws. All of Europe has pretty strict gun laws. He tried to get one illegally but in the end could not and got it legally.

So yes, gun laws help but in the end, if someone really wants to kill people, they will find a way. Gun control needs to be better, education needs to be better, school security needs to be better (and other events) and American society needs to be better. Fixing one thing won't change anything but it's a better start than what had been done so far.

As long as guns exist, I will be knowledgeable and alert as well as my family and I will always have guns. Guns are never going away so I see it as necessity.

To add on, look at Germany. There are 5.5 million legal guns in the country. Germany has one of the strictest gun control laws in the world, but has an estimated (by police unions) to have upwards 20 million illicit guns. Now add in the crime rates of the U.S. and we have a nasty situation.

I carry a gun because we can't ever get rid of illegal guns. Gun control ONLY targets legally obtainable firearms which means illicit guns would be a huge problem.

Until the day that there are no longer people who can obtain a gun and kill others with it (whether legally or illegally) I will always carry one.

Okay. One. There are no easy answers to this problem. Two. There has been a problem with school shootings and gun deaths of American children for DECADES before Columbine...certainly before last week in Florida. Problem was it was almost entirely in predominantly Black inner city schools and neighborhood. A Black Captain of mine pointed this out to me around the time Columbine and the first few follow up school shootings happened. It wasn't a big deal until it was suddenly happening in mostly White suburban schools. Funny how that works. Three. People keep asking "Why do people need "high capacity, semi-automatic rifles". While I think some sort of reasonable middle ground might need to be met it should also be realized that the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution deals directly with the right of the US People to keep and bear arms in order to be able to resist the overreach of a tyrannical government. Kind of like we had just defeated in our Revolution against the British (and the VERY little known and very timely stopped attempt by Alexander Hamilton to raise a "Grand Army" to essentially put the US under Martial Law...George Washington found out about that little plan and cut it off right at the knees with a swiftness). People can say we're paranoid (okay, some of us REALLY are), and say "That could never happen here" (gee, no country that's ever been taken over by fascists have ever thought THAT right? Anyway, THAT'S why we allow people to buy and keep weapons like that, but yes we need to enact some stricter regulations and ENFORCEMENT (even more important because some of the ones we DO have haven't been forced well... enough) need to be enacted.

Frankly...glad the rest of the world are happy with how their systems work for them...they have problems of their own and good points of their own and I wish them well. I'm not overly concerned with what they think of ours.

@cable_extreme: Should have worded properly. The United states of America are dumb. Not North America or South America.

America is a continent.

Let's please straighten this out as well. For one thing there are TWO continents with America in their names: North America and South America. However, in ALL of those two countries there is only ONE country that has the word America in its national name. That country is The United States of America. Since it would be an unnecessary mouthful to say United Statesian, or "Citizens of the United States" it's simply and understandably simply shortened to "American", or "Americans".

I don't see why this is difficult to understand, who it excludes any of the other countries in North or South America. I can't remember the last time I heard anyone refer to "North Americans" as a people. We're not trying to claim a continent or continents, we're just trying to sensibly abbreviate our country's name.

The majority of people get this. In fact (and I know, I've heard it) they enjoy putting a special derisive inflection on saying "America" or (especially) "Americans". I can't quite understand how some people seem so determined to go out of their way to be very pointlessly (I don't know) PC or something? Why do people do this...is it a lack of understanding? Are they REALLY that worried that even erroneously associating other countries on the continent(s) with us that they will be stained by our pervasive ickiness?

If it helps, they know that they're not us and we're not them even though massive numbers of large parts of many other countries on these two continents are doing everything they can to get in here. Their feelings don't get hurt about it...except maybe Canada when some of our dumb asses insist on referring to them a our 51st state, which everyone knows neither of us want.

Hopefully that's been cleared up. :)

He referred to the place America. We are first and foremost the U.S.

"Of America" is the location.

Saying American is different than saying the continent America. The reason why is an "American" is excepted as the people of the U.S.

However, Canada, Brazil, Mexico etc... are all part of either North or South America. It may be a small error, but it isn't much different than saying Africa is a country.

You wouldn't only say the Chinese are Asian. The Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese etc... are all Asian. Can't just say Asia when referencing specifically China. However Chinese are Asian just like US citizens are American.]

Either way lets not get too sidetracked.

I didn't see the correction when I asked it. Not being funny, I literally had no clue what you meant... Now that you clarified, I know.

Britain's worst ever bombing was the 7/7 bombing:

7/7 Bombing:

  • 782 Injuries

Las Vegas Shooting:

  • 59 dead (Including the LONE gunman)
  • 851 Injuries

But yeah....

Are we talking about handguns or rifles?....

You just showed that bombings are just as bad a mass shootings.

Are we talking about handguns or rifles?....

I'm talking about all weapons.

You just showed that bombings are just as bad a mass shootings.

Not really, I just compared the worst bombing in British History to a singular instance of a mass shooting, and lo and behold the mass shooting killed more and injured more.

France, a country with extremely strict gun laws has had a mass shooting far worse than any in America. 130 people died and 413 people died. Gun control didn't stop that....

You know that a majority of those deaths and injuries came from the 3 suicide bombings right? Stop talking now.

Bombs are illegal....

Solid argument there pal, not exactly hard to make them though is it. It's just a helluva lot harder to get the material, unless you think you can pop down to your local Walmart and buy some plastic explosives.
