If the 17 had guns, they would be alive by now.

Or if the 19 year old didn't have a gun. Giving 18 teenagers guns is just asking for a mass homicide shoot out right on campus, and would end up with a lot more casualties then just 17 kids, god forbid.

Very tragic, it's a damn shame that people can think this way and commit such a vile act. My heart goes out to all of those affected.

Yes, having hundreds of children in a high school all running around with loaded assault weapons would have made things oh so much better. I mean, what could possibly go wrong with that logic?

As I say everything something like this (which is far too often these days), my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and the families/friends of the victims.

Did someone just say to give high school students a bunch of guns? What the hell?

Condolences for the families of these victims.

Honestly, they should just ban guns in the US, or were several teenager homicide cases not enough to drive home the point?

Moral of the story: Legalising guns to reduce armed violence isn't the brightest of ideas.

RIP needless loss of life, that'll be used by both sides for political agenda

17 families are ruined and nothing people say or do will change that and that's the most depressing thing to think about

I could somewhat understand if someone targeted specific individuals that they knew & had some sort of grudge against but to target random people just because they're there is absolutely freakin' mind boggling.

What is going on in society these days to create these types of people? Not that it excuses this Cruz guys actions but I'm sure he felt rejected & ridiculed by his old schoolmates & teachers & it killed his self esteem & made him feel completely alone in the world & that's one of probably many contributing factor here. Why can't kids these days be more understanding & less condescending to their peers?

They won't and they never will. If anything second amendment junkies will use this as an excuse to obtain more firearms.

I was wondering why the flag was at half mast. With how everything is, we should probably just leave it there.

Guns aren't the root of the problem of gun violence in America. Tighter gun restrictions isn't going to solve the real issue.

Then what is the root of the problem ? This is the 14th shooting or something In 2018 and we're only 2 months in.

I couldn't really tell you, I turned my back on society at 10 years old, I have no part in it but as gun ownership is going down gun violence is going up so it's obviously not the problem.

@willpayton: ever heard of deterrence? There is a reason all countries have their own military. You cannot trust another country not to attack you.

By having strong defence by carrying more weapons with you, offenders will think twice before engaging you. It is far safer for each high school kid to carry a machine gun than to have none at all.

Think: Why ever since World War 2 no countries ever used nuclear weapons in their war?

I just mean back in the 70's-80's gun ownership was over 50%, in the last decade it dropped to around 30%.

The people who already own guns are the ones buying them all.

@godsaveusall: And what happens when one of those kids owning a machine gun gets pissed off or stressed ? What's stopping him from going to a nearby park or mall and unloading his anger and stress on innocent people?

@boschepg: @all-father:That's 50% of households that owned guns in the 70's-80's not 50% of individuals. I wasn't very clear on that.

This is exactly why every innocent person needs self-responsibility for their own safety. If you feel unprotected, equip yourself with what you think helps - martial arts, physical fitness, weapons, and which specifically for this topic at hand - guns.

Note I am not saying if innocent people gets killed, its their fault for not protecting themselves (Standard response to such arguments I know). Obviously its the perpetrator who needs to be punished for their crimes, but self-responsibility would have prevented a lot of such tragedy.

- Pay Respects

- Debate about freedom vs protection

- Ultimately Nothing gets done

- Rinse Repeat.

Same type of people too (disenfranchised white males). Its really sad how predictable this shit has become. And people talk about political agendas and point scoring, but lets be honest, there is alot of people on one side who really wants to due jack (or very little) about this which is just really sad to be honest.

They would help. And to be honest the real issue here is casualties.

Mental Health Awareness, Education etc would all be helpful too, but America is really unwilling to do anything, which is the fustrating thing.....
