Midnighter and Apollo Return in New Miniseries

From their days as founding members of The Authority, the heroes Midnighter and Apollo have been forever linked, both professionally and romantically. On October 5th, they’ll be back, badder than ever, in Midnighter and Apollo, a six-issue miniseries written by breakout star Steve Orlando, with art by Fernando Blanco, colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr. and covers by ACO.

Spinning out of the hit series Midnighter, this new miniseries continues the story that launched writer Steve Orlando to notoriety over the past year. Midnighter received critical acclaim in both comic and mainstream press; most notably recognized with a 2016 GLAAD nomination in the “Outstanding Comic Book” category. Together again, in the series opener Midnighter and Apollo will take on subway pirates in Los Angeles and demons in Opal City, but their reunion will take a shocking turn and send them both on an epic journey beyond all belief!

I read Midnighter. Didn't like it quite as much as other people, but enjoyed it all the same. I'll probably pick this up. Happy to see Fernando Blanco continuing to work for DC.

Yes! I'm glad that DC is paying attention to what fans are liking. I was hoping Midnighter wouldn't get swept under the rug from Rebirth, and to have him and Apollo back? Yes.

I wish most of Wildstorm would go back.

@ultimatepower6: I was worried too, but those worries now were unjustified. Ive been hoping that they would do a team up book with Apollo and Midnighter instead of focusing on just Midnighter. Hopefully this does well and they get an ongoing.

Despite being a fan-favorite, I couldn't feel the Midnighter series myself, so I doubt I'll keep up with this other than the first issue. Glad to those who liked it though.

On the other hand, where is the JLA book?

Hell yes! Midnighter was one of the best books on the stands. Very sad to see it go. Very happy to see Orlando back, even if it''s just a mini.

I think you are referring to Bryan Hitch's JLA which only got pushed back as issues 10,11,12 and the annual are already done and only issue 9 has to be completed. I'm talking about the Rebirth JLA title which was presented as a "mystery" project during the WonderCon panel and has me incredibly intrigued. I don't think this one is cancelled.

@apokos7: I didnt hear about this JLA. Though if its as big as you say there will probably be news on it soon.

@kiba: Yes and it mostly because this writer made Midnighter into a gay stereotype who goes clubbing and sleep with random men which turned me off completely and plus it was a pure action title with not so much depth on the character. And now I hope he doesn't turn them into a gay couple stereotype. I honestly wish they chose a different writer because the whole point of Midnighter and Apollo was to break the stereotype of gay characters in media not bring out the stereotypes. This is why I love these characters because they relate to the non-stereotype relationship people like me and my boyfriend and I want it to stay that way.

@righteous300: Yeah, but he met the first guy on a grindr like app and slept with him on the first night and he didn't even take a break between the two men. He just went off to the next guy and did the same thing right after the tragic ordeal with Prometheus. It gave the perception that all gay men are hores and unstable. They just keep going guy after guy and they didn't even give a good valid reason why he wasn't with Apollo.

Anything with Apollo gets my vote.

Greatly enjoyed the initial series so I'm happy it's returning in some form.

Also if this is an indication that wr might be seeing some more Windstorm books therefore eventually leading to maybe some Majestic I'm all for it.

@Iceslick: I never got that impression or perception that "all gay men are hores (sic) and unstable". As the other person said, it was TWO guys. I just took it as Midnighter being that way, especially when I saw his interaction with Apollo in the series and the other guy he was involved with.

Regardless I'm excited for the mini series and to see him return, as well as them as a team.

@Iceslick: Sorry you got that impression from the series. I personally thought it did a good job portraying Midnighter as both an openly gay character and an unconventional hero and I didnt think he was really sterotypical. Thats one thing I really liked about Midnighter was that he isnt stereotypical. I do get your fears that they may become stereotypical gay couple, but I have a little faith they wont.

There was one though in new 52, got like two volumes, plus he was a big part of Futures End.

I'm super happy they get a little more going on in the title, and I'm glad the colorist came back, I really enjoyed the look of the book, it really meshed well with the theme. I bought every issue of the Midnighter series and have almost all of his Wildstorm series.

Dude stop being salty and read all the Rebirth books. Everyone is loving it and I love all of them. This is the best I have felt about DC ever. I read ZERO DC titles just couple months ago now I'm reading almost all of their books.
