The Court of Owls is Coming to 'Gotham'

One of the biggest successes to come out of the early DC reboot, the "New 52," was the Court of Owls, the centuries old group that is embedded within the history of Gotham City. Along with their trained assassins, the Talons, they were a formidable foe for Batman, and now, they're coming to Gotham on Fox, as revealed by showrunner Bruno Heller when he spoke with ComicBook.com. During the interview, Heller explained that the Court of Owls is deep in Gotham mythology and it will be a part of the show, eventually.

“We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once. The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne’s journey of discovery down into the depths of the physical and meta-physical world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

Could this be a bigger part of Bruce Wayne's journey that fans will see later this year? Was Thomas Wayne connected to the Court of Owls at some point in his life? According to a Tweet from creator Scott Snyder, they'll be around this season. What do you think about the Court of Owls making their way onto the show?

They need to go creepy with this, not the usual cheesy stuff most of their villains turn in to.

... What?! "Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can't just-" WHAT?! What the actual... So Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, even the JOKER?! While Bruce Wayne is still a child, no less?! If THAT'S them holding back their cards, I want to play poker with these guys!

Hell, I bet if they thought they could get away with it, they'd bring Ra's al Ghul and an adult Talia just for her to meet Bruce and go, "Boy, if you were 20 years older..." Feels less like they're holding cards back and more like now that they've got the big cards on the table they can keep the Court in their back pocket for emergencies. "In case of imminent cancellation, break glass."

If they'd actually cared about the Court, they'd have had THEM being the major overarching antagonist of the series rather than watching the rest of Batman's Rogues Gallery descend into madness. Hell, I bet that's their plan! "Oh, ratings are dropping, we won't last, have Gordon confront a Talon and the Court be revealed to be responsible for everything."

And isn't this show supposed to be about Gordon?!

To hell with it, I don't watch the show, why do I even care...

I haven't watched a single episode of Gotham yet, but the Court of Owls story-arc was one of my all-time favorite Batman stories so I might cave in and check it out when it happens. Maybe lol I'm torn.

Excited that the Court is going live action. Not excited its on Gotham.

I'd rather see it on Arrow. They already borrow heavily from the Batman mythos, so why not try to adapt one of it's best storylines?

@darkknightwing Regarding Arrow using some Batman mythos I feel a better choice would have been instead of using Ra's al ghul season 3 I think Sensi would have been a better choice while also introducing chesire to kinda drive a wedge between roy and thia and pin him against oliver.

Eh.. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets adapted into a Batman film one day.

Sweet. I like all the factors that can be used with an over the top cult theme. Giving a kind of trust no one vibe. Should be good if they are allowed to do it.

I would rather the Court of Cancellation come to Gotham

I like the idea of gotham being more of a prequel to some of the batman villains but introducing selina, poison ivy and other characters in the same age group as bruce too early is what made the first season a bit ..meh..

@jonsmith: Totally agree with you, I remember when they first announced the show and explained that it would be a police drama set in gotham- the end.

When asked by every reporter they eventually conceded that Bruce Wayne would appear near the start as a minor cameo type of character and that the GCPD were the focus of the show.

How long did that last behind the scenes I wonder?

At this point, which villains aren't showing up this season?

They should create a new villain, someone cool who most viewers will like, who plays center stage for a few episodes until he crosses the Court and then mysteriously disappears never to be seen again.

BOO! Give the rights back to Marvel!

Im really enjoying the "Gotham" take on the Batman universe. I am enjoying it enough to suspend my knowledge of how things were "supposed" to happen and go with it.

Dammit, I might actually have to start watching Gotham again.

What they probably should have started with in S1 instead of throwing every villain in your face.

Homes is a couple of years older and penguin older still.

Unsure why others kick off that wrong age when seems quite correct

I don't generally read or follow Batman, I actually tend to debate against Batman more often than not, however I bought the entire court of owls run and it was worth every penny.

I'll have to see this show sometime later.

I still havent seem season 1 yet... i really need to get into this.

The Court of Owls on Gotham is a brilliant idea and I've been hoping they would do it since early Season 1. There were hints here and there throughout the first season and I look forward to seeing where it goes. One thing I would love to see is an episode recreating Jarvis Pennyworth's murder at the hands of a Talon Assassin. An entire flashback episode showing Martha Wayne resisting the Court and her "accident" where she loses her second unborn child. That would be neat.
